For those who care, Canada beat the USA in the 4 Nations hockey tournament, in overtime.
A great day for Canada, therefore the entire the Commonwealth and largely the world.
I shall proudly wear my Canadian hockey cap, t-shirt and puffer vest this weekend. Seriously I have the collection. (Saved from the skip a few years ago). 🇨🇦
Thank you for your service. French crullers all around.
Yum
I sorta do and don’t. I didn’t know the event was on and this news doesn’t change my day in any way.
But if I were asked who I’d prefer to win in a(ny) sporting contest between Canada and USA, I’m picking Canada!
It was kind of like an all-star tournament with USA, Canada, Finland and Sweden sending their best. It’s been a long time since professional hockey players competed in the Olympics, so this was a bit of a trial run before the next winter games.
Mate i dont much care who beats them I’m happy to watch america get their asses kicked all the live long day. Always an added bonus if its the “snow aussies” (I recently heard them called that) take a win as well.
The game was closer than I’d liked, and to be fair, the US team is absolutely stacked. Next Olympics are going to be fun as heck.

Yay Canada! 🇨🇦

Won’t post because messy background but I have a picture of Melbcat twining her tail around my mug like she was going to pick it up
I caught my previous cat doing this from a glass of water once, and had the sad realisation that I’d been sharing my drinks with her for quite some time
😂
That was an alright sort of day. Feel like I’ve been operating on autopilot… anyway it’s good to be home to a pre-cooled lounge room, time to heat up a hearty dinner and enjoy this week’s tv! My favourite thing about Fridays atm 🥳
What’s everyone’s plans for the weekend? I’ve got to list these dang little items on fbm before my rental inspection in two weeks, and probably do more bulk cooking. Nothing much else otherwise. Try and finish Juice, I guess
Saturday recovery. Sunday prepare for the week. Washing that loves the outdoors.
Another Saturday chill day person? People often assume I prefer to have active Saturdays and chill Sundays like many others, maybe a hangover from when Sundays were for rest and church and all that but I desperately need my sleep-in and recovery day on Saturday, not Sunday.
looking at houses
getting rid of stuff
reading
writing in my art journal
House hunting and decluttering can take up so much energy, it sounds like it’s a move for a good reason though? And at least not rushed
bigger place and some peace and quiet
Shopping tomorrow early as possible at Southland for groceries and a click and collect.
Staying cool and catching up Severance if I don’t get to it tonight.
I think cricket match might be on tomorrow so I’ll try and catch that too.
At the moment I have no idea what groceries I want to get so that’s a bit of a bother.
Is it that you’re not sure what you’d like to cook for the next few days? Maybe get whatever’s on special and make up something out of it, that’s often fun.
This week’s Severence was really emotional and definitely moving some characters forward, I’d be keen to hear your thoughts.
Sorry for the late reply.
I don’t have much of an ide a what I want to eat for the next week or so. Usually I have some sort of an idea but I’m sort of drawing blanks.
Will do. I’ll put it on today in the afternoon.
Miniest needs new shoes. I need new work boots. Shopping whilst avoiding the heat. Tackling Mount Washmore. Not much I guess.
Tis a warm weekend and perfect for scaling that treacherous peak. I need to wash some woolens that have been sitting in my clothes basket from when I moved in…
I’ve got an unusually busy weekend lined up, seeing some friends and also visiting the kusama exhibition and maybe someone’s birthday drinks. Along all the usual chores - lucky it will be good weather for drying laundry
Oh nice! A good social weekend can be really rewarding. I have a really quiet weekend and been feeling anti-people recently but also recognising I need to socialise a bit so that it doesn’t sink into total social dysfunction heh.
Lunch break. I have achieved gozleme and am pleased
As usual I’ve had coffee for lunch
The Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner of Champions!
I’m half an hour late for mine and still have no idea what I actually want to eat…
EDIT: Can of tuna and some bikkies. Delicious.
Aaaaah… Bed… Nice to put the feet up at last
Yeah, I’ve hurt my knee. Pes anserine bursitis at a very educated guess. Got a bag of Epsom salt glad wrapped to it… And elevated.
I didn’t know you could use Epsom salts like that, it honestly never occurred to me. Does it work well? I’ve always just dissolved it in a bath.
Apparently using them like that can also help to remove a splinter. It didn’t work for me, but that’s probably because the “splinter” turned out to be a small stick requiring surgical intervention. But the whole osmotic pressure thing is supposed to work on normal splinters.
It’s magnesium sulfate, mangnoplam splinter gel is pretty much Epsom and a carrier like solugel or Sorbonne.
It creates some osmotic pressure to pull edema. It’s a bit of an old timey solution. Whenever I recommend it to clients I was sure to inform them that the science was weak. It’s cheap, low risk and easy to self manage. I was always bad at the business part of being a therapist.
I must have walked at least 5k yesterday, probably my longest walk in a year. I’m a bit tired but also glad my back isn’t sore from it. 🙂
We’ve had a break in at our office overnight! So far nothing appears stolen, but the office is crawling with cops blowing fingerprint dust everywhere.
Work break-ins are always a fun break-up of the usual routine. One happened at my old job and even though there’s all this expensive musical equipment, the guy just tried to make off with some laptops and cheap guitars.
It looked like the guy was homeless though. So he was more just trying to get whatever he thought would sell, which is quite sad overall
God I love 80s anime
I watched Fire and Ice the other day. Shout out to Nauscia as well.
Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind? I love that film so fkn much
It’s one of my favourites.
Hard agree!
I used to watch some. Like Ranma 1/2 , all the japanese movies of course .
Idk what movie that is, but I want to be that character or I want them in my bed. That’s goals right there
It’s from Vampire Hunter D
OMG lol! I’ve read the novels that were translated from Japanese to English, but never seen the anime!
That makes this even hotter haha
-wake up
- win10 work machine rebooted update overnight closing all open docs despite explicitly being told not to cheers ya fuckhead
- Win7 machine decides it now hates name resolution
- tweak dns / set to dhcp, no go
- flush dns no go
- pull up dns repository and see some freah adobe hell in there
- use win10 machine to scoop latest blacklist for hosts file while i’m at it
- win 7 machine won’t talk to win10 machine or ping (talks to everything else) but win10 can ping win 7
Oh. It’s gonna be one of those days.
Time to go Debian everything
Also i know the go to is "try linux!!’ And it’s solid advice, but dumping it unsolicited is about as useful as a fart in an elevator. Don’t be the fart.
Sorry. Debian’s good because it has a longer update cycle, and you can opt out of them completely if you’d like. So you don’t get things suddenly breaking on you.
I feel like Linux also plays better with remote desktop services as any version of Linux can do it, you don’t need the pro or enterprise versions like with Windows.
And mounting network drives can feel more complicated when doing it in the command line, but I like the transparency of working in there than Windows’ wizard.
That’s been my experience at least, I’ve just been tinkering and don’t actually work in networking
I actually built a multi session MINT termserv for work to baby the users away from windows. Had a looooooot of linux people saying it was preposterous despite the fact this is what fucking linux was built for and trying to mock me, someone with 20 years experience who spends 90% of my time balls deep in production deb servers and proxmox (irony of ironies, I personally run slack)
…i have a very dim view of a lot of online *nix touters. The dunning-kruger, it is real.
😂😂
I used to have a friend who was a total Linux nerd, and he’d take every opportunity to try and force on the rest of us.
But then would struggle to get a multiplayer game to work because it wasn’t compatible… I know things have improved since but I’m so turned off Linux anything because of it being shoved down my throat non-stop
Yeah it gets a bit like that. Where’s that jon stewart “you’re not helping” gif :)
(I mean this very lovingly as a non partisan tech: don’t proselytise guys…)
In other fresh hell it threw the bootloader, fixed that, disconnected my actual content (non-os) drives so i can fuck about with the validation, thought 'i’ll give her a clean while i’m in here" aaand the front bezel 14mm intake fan is also pooted. (Lives behind the hdd cage, so a hassle to get at). Got plenty of 12s, even a spare 24, no 14s.
On my bike to the shop i go…
MY FUCKING BIKE THREW ITS BACK TYRE ARE YOU SHITTING ME
there’s a hole in my bucket dear liza dear liza…
Oh i have *nix boxxen, i keep the winturds to keep my hand in professionally
I’ve been to Whistler Blackcomb a couple of times. That’s really all I know of Canada.
So based on that limited experience, 6/5 Hobbits

You are now Canadian, and honorary member of the Commonwealth!

As weird as it may sound, Aussie culture is closer to British and American culture, than Canadian culture is to both those.
Canada shook away it’s British roots quite a bit (wtf is cricket anyway) and tried to distance itself culturally from America due to proximity.
However Canadian humour and Aussie humour is very different, but appealing to each other.
Oh yeah they’re different types of humour but mutually intelligible 😂 my uncle is Canadian (partner to my aunt/dad’s sister) and it’s definitely evident, but still funny and on point!
And it isn’t weird at all, Aussie humour is its own thing but very very heavily influenced by Britain and the USA for sure!
Oh omg I’m a born and raised Aussie but I don’t even know what cricket is!! I don’t know how it scores, what any terminology means, nothing. I can’t even remember if the bowler is supposed to hit the wickets or not 😭 I MUCH prefer tennis!
Aussie sarcasm and shit talking for the fun of it, is second to none.
Brits do it in a condescending way, but Aussies do it more egalitarian. None one is safe, and everyone can be made fun off.
Canadian sarcasm is not far off just more polite.
American sarcasm is reserved for those who can think…so not enough.
Whistler is the Gold Coast of Canada.
Holidays for some locals and many foreigners, not looked down upon, but not really celebrated
If you want to know about Canada, ask away. Apart from recent stuff, cause I’ve lived here for two decades now.
I had a view of Canada from my desk for a few years.

Taught the kid how to play gin rummy. She did good.
Looks like my good run on marketplace is at an end. Today’s buyer was a no show, and the person who made an offer on another item yesterday has ghosted. I knew it was too good to last!
Gah! We’ve been getting Can I have it free, also delivered to the total other side of the city? This is why I prefer just giving stuff away.
My favourite was the guy interested in my $5 fishing net, who asked if I could post it and told me he didn’t need the handle so I could cut it off with a hacksaw.
I’m a definite fan of giving stuff away, but stuff you can’t just drop down at the op shop is a pain. I’ve found if I put a low price on there will often be competition to take it off my hands, but some items seem to just bring out crazy people no matter what you do. The fishing net was a bit wild, I was totally flooded with enquiries for that one. According to the guy that bought it it’s a really good net for boat fishing because it’s really deep and has a lip you can use to pull the boat towards you, but I still think the 30+ enquiries I was flooded with in the first few hours is a bit odd.
One of the great things about getting into work early is there’s no one there to notice you got in 5 minutes late
If you’re in early how are you 5 minutes late?
Or do you have an early start that you happened to be 5 minutes later for?
Please clarify, brain not braining yet.
Started at bumfuck am, but got in a wee bit late
Yep. Got here at the crack but a bee’s dick too late.
You’re an adult, they can go fuck themselves over five minutes
I don’t think they’d care too much, but they also can’t pull me up about it because they don’t know
It’s more a place where you can get in whenever and finish 8 hours from there. I was technically a little late in but damn if I’m leaving at 4:05
Got it
Well that was surprisingly not so difficult. REA was on leave and had no auto reply but when I called the agency they were very attentive, escalated to another PM who called me then got in touch with the owners and scheduled in a maintenance request all within 2 hours. Pumber called at lunch, they’ll come in on Monday. I guess it’s a good thing the next two days are gonna be hot so I won’t really need the hot water anyway!
Relieved it didn’t involve a whole lot of back and forth and procrastinating from the REA/dodgy edit.
maintenance request all within 2 hours
From experience… very wise on their part. Water can ruin everyone’s day.
Especially hot water… and especially when the tenant isn’t paying for any of it
I am very much over trying to move and photograph heavy things to sell. Especially because there is not much room to move them in. But I’ve been having a good run on Marketplace and hopefully these will all be cleared out and I can stop tripping over them. buying that antique post drill press seemed a much better idea when I didn’t realise how big and heavy it was! Getting it to the front door if I manage to sell it is going to be quite a workout.
Hello! 👋🏻
I’m not sure if you already know about these or if they would be useful but there’s something you can slide under heavy things to help move them. Furniture lift tool thingy.
Consisting of a lever and four little platforms with castors https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=sz5SSe4cgnA&pp=ygUJI3JhaGFlc3lh
Edit: They had them at Bunnings but I’m sure they’re not exclusive
They are good. I’m pretty sure I used to have some, and am now wondering where they went. Unfortunately they wouldn’t help in this case though - it’s all stuff like old tools, including a really heavy old drill press that is designed to be mounted on a post - my guess it is around 40-50kg, with handles and things sticking out everywhere to make it even more awkward. The rest is at least only heavy because there are so many things - including a rediculous number of hand saws. I’m not even sure where they have all come from, but begin to suspect that someone has been sneaking into my shed to add extra struff! It’s amazing what 20 years of living in the same spot can see you accumulate.
Oh damn, yeah. Maybe the people buying need to bring a burly mate and a wheeled dolly
