    Ordered 3 got 4 🙃

I think that’s the trick… go on a Monday. So lucky to have a view like that just opposite the place.

Ahhh how the stress just disappears.

Shame they won’t give me garden leave. I think I’ll have another day in the city tomorrow lol

Was nice being out and about around people. Just sat down every hour or so and took out the laptop to check for any messages.

Same, but around 5 - 5:30am for me. I’ve been researching why I keep having interrupted sleep and I’ve put it down to stress. But my life has a baseline level of stress which I’m pretty much always under, so I don’t know how to reduce it below that to stop this from happening.

    smashes paint

    Aht

    https://youtu.be/TNB3XY67Q-I

I put down some of the Born olive green and tried to match it with a limited palette of Anko paints. It’s not identical but if you look at the palette knife (used to mix) and the centre colour put directly on the swatch it’s kinda close

I should wait and see if it darkens when it dries.

Edit: I had cleaned the knife but scraped from the rapidly drying pile for a better comparison. It looks a little cooler (and like a gross paste) but not miles off

      looking good 🙂

so this is what I did to test the colours of a water colour palette , I’m not up to mixing colours yet. I can barely do a good wash.

The colour dried way darker than it looked when wet so I don’t know what I’m gonna do about trying to match :( I’m not really going through anything in an organised way. Just figured I’d give it a go.

        That looks really neat

D’ya reckon you could make a successful pea and ham soup with sliced ham rather than ham hock? EDIT: Because savemore supermarket has a lot of cheap ham, often.

I actually use smoked sausage called rookwurst. I put the whole sausage in ( shut up ) , it swells up, ( shut up ) then drag it out and slice it to have with the soup .

I also put a tiny bit of maggi seasoning in my bowl of soup.

iow, why not, there are many different recipes and they all taste good

I reckon you’d need to make the base stock with a ham bone - they’re cheap at butchers shops. With the pease, onion, carrot and bay leaf as per usual but cook it for longer. A slow cooker would be perfect for the job. Then add the chopped sliced ham to the soup at the end. No need to add salt then, the sliced ham will have enough. Just using the sliced ham only you’ll lose out on the glorious gelatinous mouthfeel of a proper pea & ham soup, and it won’t set to a jelly like a ham bone/ham hock soup would.

Yes, but it will lack most of the jelly. How thin is this ham cut? I wouldn’t try it with sandwich slice unless really stuck for options.

You could add a pigs foot like for holodets but idk how palatable that sounds. Chicken wings would also add collagen

Otherwise bones with a little vinegar work.

This would work very well. Most butchers will have packs of 1 or 2 pigs trotters - scrub well, heave ONE into the pot with the pease and when cooked you’ll have a lovely gelatinous stock.
They don’t have much taste - you can make sweet fruit jellies with pigs trotters and very nice they are too - but the collagen/gelatine they release is incredible. Freeze the other trotter for the next time.

Wondering if Melbcat might enjoy. She wasn’t big on bone broth though because it didn’t have a strong flavour. She likes a meaty taste

Yeah won’t taste exactly the same and the texture/consistency will be more “liquidy” I think. Should still taste good though. I normally chuck in about 200g of cooked/chopped bacon as well.

Hot water fixed, yay. Now running through the usual “yes, I already tried that, as I mentioned in 3 separate emails” gauntlet to get dishwasher people to get someone out to fix it or organise a replacement… can’t be arsed going back into the office after working from home while the plumber was here. I had lunch and don’t feel like talking to anyone. Too late in the day to do any local site visits either. mehhhh

Manager knows that I’m waiting for a job offer and has indicated that I should take leave before the new role.

Currently on secondment and he’s kind of said to plan on not coming back.

Apparently I have excess leave and this solves a problem for him.

    Okay then.

I get leave loading when I take leave, so end up getting a bit more. And I’m moving to another gov dept, so all my entitlements carry over.

Considering I’ve got shit ton of leave, it works in everyone’s favour.

They’re looking at cutting roles regardless. Our programme is coming to an end, so if anyone leaves before their contract ends, they just won’t replace them.

With the announcement last week, there is a bit of a scramble. My vacant role can be canned, meaning someone else won’t be made redundant.

In my team there are three others doing similar work to mine, so my workload can easily be spread amongst them.
