The problem is that cheaper foods often include some protein but much more fat and carbohydrates (starch and sugar). Increasing protein in the diet can thus also mean increasing calories to an unhealthy level.

This is something people should be more aware of. Vegans tend to eat too much carbs, and not aware they are defficient in vitamins B12, D, omega 3…

Avoiding fat and sugar might be a luxury for the wealthy 10 percent of the UK population who are not facing fuel poverty in the coming months

Junk food should be increasily taxed and healthy should be subsidized.

I doubt the “not aware” bit, every vegetarian or vegan is blasted with this the second their diet comes up in conversation regardless of how diligent they are about it. It’s inescapable.

When you go vegetarian or vegan, suddenly your possible nutrient deficiencies that you could maybe have become the concern of everyone you meet.

I should have said some. I do not think most people are aware about specific defficiences in a vegan diet other than maybe protein and calcium, including some vegans and vegetarians. At best meds, nutritionists would certainly come up with that; maybe other vegans as well. Maybe it depends where you live, whom you talk with. In my experience nobody other than health professionals asked about things like vitamins.
