    Human intelligence has a defect that makes it impossible for it to understand the phenomenon of intelligence well enough that it can duplicate it artificially. Think of it as a “blind spot in the retina”.

    If any machine intelligences are born, they will be emergent intelligences, quite accidental. Probably also downright psychotic. Hopefully the probability is low.

    I suspect that, were we to know and understand the fundamental principles of intelligence, hardware from the 1980s might suffice.
