Greater Seattle-area guy. Many interests mostly technical and software-related. Sailor, woodworker, traveler, avid reader. Pragmatic progressive. Elder Scrolls Online solo-er. So very, very glad to find a place that isn’t flooded with fans, stans, shills, bots, &tc. Cheers!

Welcome kind sir. I am in Atlanta with crazy dogs a kid, wife, and software stuff keeps the lights on. I am probably also a pragmatic progressive because I try to always be pragmatic :) … A sailor!? What, you can’t just drop that without explaining. Do you have a boat!? Did you make the boat with your woodworking foo?

Caught the sailing bug in 1988, then sailed, cruised, and raced all over the PNW. Did a couple offshore deliveries from Seattle to Cabo. Taught sailing, maintained and repaired a fleet of charter sailboats. Lived aboard a sailboat, owned another sailboat, now my wife and I have a trawler-style powerboat.

The reality is that if you live up here, you have to work pretty hard not to get on a boat somehow. Only the Kiwis may exceed our outdoor sport thing. 😄

Done plenty of woodwork on boats but haven’t built a boat (yet). There’s always one or two guys building kayaks or dinghies at our woodshop.

Wow. You are the real deal. I do love being on the water but my experience is as a passenger except for small boats. I will be on the NC coast for two weeks soon and I am sure i will find a way to spend time on a boat. Thanks for sharing

As the saying goes, people overestimate what they can do in one year, and underestimate what they can do in ten. Sailing stuff just accumulated.

Enjoy your trip to North Carolina!

    Welcome welcome.

I tried to get into woodworking a while ago. I joined a hackerspace and took some classes on various tools and planned to make myself an amazing desk.

Then I caught the travel bug, sold most of my worldly belongings, and bought a one-way ticket to Chile with my wife, so my learning there stalled.

Quite the adventure! Doing things or making things, it’s all good. I’m a fan of big life changes; I’d rather talk to someone with a varied life than someone who sits and stares at the TV.

Good on you and your wife for living an interesting life!
