The TikTok ban is something Mark Zuckerberg lobbied for. It’s not a good thing.

Because Bridgy is opt-in, and I can’t interact with Mastodon users on Bluesky unless they opt-in to Bridgy.

If Mastodon were as big as Bluesky is, it would also have this problem.

I’m on lemmy.ml and most of the communities I interact with are on lemmy.world. Most people are normal about it.

A TikTok ban would consolidate more power into the hands of Mark Zuckerberg and Meta. Arguably, that’s worse.

The worst case scenario for private development (imo) is pencil towers with limited numbers of units, all extremely expensive, or auto-oriented suburban sprawl.

There need to be caveats, of course. I’m not interested in anything that would actually worsen conditions.
