Registration is closed for the time being due to a coming influx of conspiracy theorists

Caught some people planning to use my instance as a right wing, covid conspiracy board. I don’t have the time to moderate that so I’m closing off registration temporarily…

Hello, I run this site. What’s this community about exactly?

I know the Dems aren’t left leaning enough for most of us but it’s still a good observation…

Well, people on other instances who are subscribed to main can see and upvote this post. I don’t think bots are upvoting.

Welcome! I’m a Clevelander, so we’re not too far away from each other. I think you’re the first non-bot account that’s been made here lol. This is mostly a side project for me. Runs on a $5 digital ocean server in Germany. Feel free to make a community and/or subscribe to one on lemmy.ml or another instance.

Just tried it with my brother. Briar generates a random URL-like string such as “briar://7f2g83f7832hgb87f3b…” on your device which you share with the person you want to be in contact with, and they send you their string. Once you’ve both pasted each other’s strings in the proper form field it connects and you can start messaging each other.

Question about graphics quality with USB-C to HDMI adapter

I have a 1440p @ 144Hz monitor that only takes HDMI and a machine with an HDMI port and a USB-C/Thunderbolt 3 port. Am I getting the same quality graphics out of the HDMI to HDMI as I would out of the USB-C to HDMI setup? Forgive me as I’m not a gamer or anything and don’t know much about graphics s…

“The man” is referring to people in positions of authority such as politicians and business executives. You’ll sometimes hear people say that “the man” is trying to “keep them down”.

Please excuse the cat hair…

I remember someone else asked the devs about this and they said it’s not a good feature for accessibility.

Yeah, this shows up. For some reason my post to c/Linux doesn’t show any comments on my instance, but there are 7 comments on lemmy.ml.

Programming in C# on Linux?

I’m about to start a new job working with C#/.NET and will try to practice before I start. How much of a pain is it to do on Linux?..

Good to see them doubling down. They got all the rightoids in a hissy fit a few months ago because they put an openly gay competition shooter on the cover.

On lemmy.ml there are 3 comments as of writing this comment, but I can’t see them from my instance.

I run my instance on there and I pay $5 USD a month for it and so far I’m happy about it. You can choose where the server is located, although I don’t know if that determines whether DO will take down your server as @pimento@lemmygrad.ml said since they’re based in the US. My DO server is in Germany.

Also, that people post stuff that isn’t really the theme of the subreddit. For example, on r/whatcouldgowrong someone will post a video of using their phone and then it slips out of their hand and cracks on the ground with the title “WCGW using your phone”. It’s not like they were standing on top of a moving vehicle or something they just were clumsy and broke their phone.

How the userbase is constantly bombarding the site with alternate versions of the same meme. Everything just feels so try-hard.

Lol. I click on this meme that has 30 comments, block a person, and now I see 3.

I wouldn’t say that, but I don’t think I would like much more recoil.

Bonus cat as well…

I luckily had a family member who lived next door to an employee at the company who had a lot of clout. They interviewed me and I got the job.

But I switched careers to programming after about 2.5 years, so I kind of had to look for a first job twice since I’d never worked in IT. Went to a coding bootcamp and when I graduated I applied to a bunch of places and didn’t get hired for 3 months.

I’m not good with interviews either. I don’t know what your situation is but you have to remember that it’s probably not the end of the world if you don’t get an offer. You’ll get another interview in the future. Hunting for jobs fucking sucks, but we all have to do it from time to time.
