“I sleep” meme format, with top text “israel uses U.S. weapons to kill over 31k, wound 75k, and displace 1.9M” next to a picture of Shaquille O’Neal asleep with the caption “i sleep”, and bottom text “ukraine uses U.S. weapons to strike russian energy infrastructure, raising oil prices” next to the same image of Shaq but now solarized and with glowing eyes and the caption “real shit”.

Beneath the meme is a screenshot of the first two paragraphs of this reuters article, which are:

March 22 (Reuters) - The United States has urged Ukraine to halt strikes on Russian energy infrastructure, warning that drone strikes risk provoking retaliation and driving up global oil prices, the Financial Times reported on Friday, citing people familiar with the matter.

The attacks helped boost oil prices that have risen nearly 4% so far since March 12, when Ukraine first started targeting Russia’s energy infrastructure. A further rally in gasoline prices in the United States would weaken President Joe Biden ratings and undermine his re-election chances.

the words “driving up global oil prices” are highlighted.

I said before, if the US chooses to not provide aid to Ukraine, they leave Ukraine less choices. And one choice will be hitting oil infra (cheap, low risk and relatively low efford for Ukraine, very difficult and expensive for Russia).

So if the US wants to steer Ukranian military efforts, they can do so by providing the Ukranian military with means to dominate the battlefield. And even then, forcing the Russians to dedicate air defense to these maaaaaassssiivveee installations weakens their front line air defense.

Also the US is currently (one of) the biggest exporters of oil and gas. I imagine they are very heartbroken when making more profit on these exports.

Is democrats all want the aid for Ukraine to pass. It’s the republicans you should blame, not “the US”

Doesn’t OPEC control oil prices? 🤔

It hasn’t for a long time.

do you have a source? Everything I am find online is still showing OPEC going strong

They don’t set the price; they influence it by ostensibly controlling the supply from member countries. But, as Wikipedia says:

Since the 1980s, OPEC has had a limited impact on world oil-supply and oil-price stability, as there is frequent cheating by members on their commitments to one another, and as member commitments reflect what they would do even in the absence of OPEC. [4]

Something going all the way back to the end of the 70s showing how no member follows their quota, no I don’t.

But current numbers on how the quotas are meaningless today are easy:

          https://www.dallasfed.org/research/economics/2022/0419

That’s the second link when I search for it.

The first one is this: https://www.opec.org/opec_web/en/data_graphs/335.htm

It probably has the data you want, but you have to agree to some nebulous spying to get there.

I honestly wouldn’t be surprised if this was created by Russian trolls as a form of manipulation.

Really? This meme which I just made, with the detailed image transcript for accessibility?

Please, check my lemmy history. Do you really think I’m a Russian troll? 🤣

I don’t get the knee jerk Russian bot response either. The point isn’t pro-Russia, it is that we give zero fucks for killing Palestinian kids, but if we pay a few bucks more at the pump, full stop real issue to talk about. Russia and Israel are run by horrible murderous people.

U serve the same ends by posting this anal drip. U could be a bot, a paid human, an enslaved human, or the genuinely misguided, but the end result is the same.

do you read this meme as being either for or against the US telling Ukraine to stop bombing Russian energy infrastructure? 🤔

                Wow. Sorry. Im a moron.

I work a graveyard shift and should probably be more careful commenting in the dead of night. I will leave my shame up; feel free to ridicule.

Don’t need to be a Russian troll to see the hypocrisy. The powers at play don’t give a fuck about people. Only the money. Dead people is just one of many costs of whatever is going on. Here we have a very clear demonstration that the US government will react much quicker to the gas price than the blood price. I don’t expect better from any party currently involved.
