When everyone is doing what they want, it’s lack of enforcement. When there’s enforcement, it’s a cash grab. Yes we need a ton more enforcement but people make it more difficult than it should be.
The city should recruit volunteers to enforce bylaws. I guarantee that they’ll generate more revenue than the city would know what to do with, and you’ll get fewer asshats illegally parking in bike lanes, making the city safer.
I live east of the city (Durham Region) and I see DOZENS of illegal parking violations just going for a casual bike ride.
If cities are lacking in funds to make safer infrastructure, then they are wilfully ignoring this massive revenue stream.
I give Toronto Police Service 5/10 rating at best… they do catch speeders, they have done the right thing sometimes. Overall they are generally chill and lazy but they do not give two shits about cyclists. For what they get paid there’s a lot of stuff they ignore or respond to very slowly.
