“if we don’t do it, someone else will”

Ohh yes, if Grindr doesn’t feed Grindr users’s chats, which only the users involved and possibly Grindr itself are presumably privy to, to an LLM, someone else will.

And, of course, we know that once one company uses those chats, it becomes literally impossible for anyone else to use them.

You know how sometimes you use a grocery app and it’s fairly obvious that the people writing them don’t spend time in grocery stores? I’m getting that same impression here.

Does the (straight) CEO not realize how easy it is to get laid off Grindr? It’s an Ok Cupid-style grid, and there’s a profile flag you can set that literally says “yes please, send me NSFW pics”. You can literally send you hole/pole to everyone who would want to see it in a 3 mile radius

Grindr has been used to out people everywhere from Palestine to Egypt to Chechnya to America, so training a chaotic, insecure LLM on user data seems like the privacy disaster from hell.

I don’t think “going to a random place the algorithm told you to and having sex with whoever else is there” is nearly as common a fetish as it would have to be for this to be anything approaching a viable concept.
