Damn, I knew OW2 was kinda bad but it went down hill and into the sewers. Also very sad but realistic timeline.
Lol, I remember, I had an exam about Blizzard being a shit company in our German class
e
what kind of German class are you in that does exams about blizzard? was it just a small class discussion, please elaborate.
We had the topic of creating a comment and a blog. The main topic for it was “Gaming” to make it more interesting for pupils. Its at a vocational school. Our teacher just picked the Blizzard topic and we learned multiple weeks how to do this with blizzard and then had an Exam on this. Its interesting that woman were molested there and we also compared this with german IT workplaces where Woman are pretty much happy at IT workplaces but there also is not much of them. We want more woman at IT places and also learned how IT was actually more of a Female job because carying for Kids and Homeoffice was a perfect combination.
I also need this elaboration
I commented (this reply is so you get notified)
And don’t forget
Make a character based on your very molesting head of design
Merely rename him as soon as the public finds out
Not to mention selling the sequel on the promise of Co-op then cancelling that feature long after launch and killing the 1st game so players couldn’t simply continue to play the game they purchased already.
For someone out of the loop. What did they do to the first one?
Turned it off.
Sick! So you brought overwatch 1 which you now can’t play anymore? Wtf.
Dude, that’s fucked up. What the heck…can you host your own servers like…I dunno, CounterStrike? Or is it dead-dead?
The replaced it altogether. It’s no more
Your post looks weird in a browser. It could use some new lines.
I feel like games from alternate launchers that launch on steam do so as a last ditch effort.
This is good for Linux users. Valve has been fantastic for supporting games on Linux since the Steam Deck and Blizz has never had proper Linux support. Now Linux users can ditch Lutris, Bottles, or WINE if they want to just simplify and use Steam, which does have a native Linux build.
Does OW2’s anticheat support Linux?
Always has. Overwatch has been a great game for Linux and I played it regularly up until OW2 came out and shit all over the franchise with its stupid battle pass and F2P.
Now I only play occasionally as it’s still a fun experience with the right people, but I don’t play solo anymore. The progression is completely ruined since it’s locked behind BP. I used to buy the limited time skins every once in a while to support what I believed to be a very fair monetization system, but they’re not getting a cent for OW2 from me. Complete trash.
I actually did like most of the gameplay changes they did for ow2. They managed to save a lot of stuff they managed to fuck up in ow1. Ow1 was good a few years ago, but got worse from patch to patch. Their monetizing system sucks obviously. I think they had a massive problem with declining player rates (because they fucked up the gameplay) and making it F2P was their way of gaining a bigger player base. But now they have to monetize everything to acctually make money from their players. So gameplay got better, everything else got way worse.
Overwatch has anticheat?
Yes, just battle.net that made things complicated
It works with wine. I expect it would work with proton too.
Valve has been amazing for linux long before the Steam Deck. They have been putting in a huge amount of work and support for Linux when they launched the ill fated Steam Machines. Back when MS was looking to force 3rd party stores out of the Windows ecosystem.
I see what you’re saying, but Steam Machines came out in 2015 and was more a push for native Linux support. IMO, Proton was the paradigm shift where native support immediately started mattering less and that came out in 2018
I think it’s more just getting ready the MS deal to finalise as MS have commited to make sure all their stuff is available on Steam. Wouldn’t surprise me if we see Diablo 4 soon too.

Unlikely. Microsoft is now first and foremost a cloud provider and has been putting a lot of time and effort into their own Linux offerings, and desktop Windows just isn’t the hypercritical lynchpin for their bottom line that it used to be.
Doubt it given what a success the Deck has been.
deleted by creator
Yeah, it was a disaster, but to be fair to them, they were trying to bring in stone stuff that’s now standard like PC/Console crossplay and play anywhere on one purchase.
For most games it’s not viable to stay exclusive away from steam forever. I feel like most alternative platforms are going this way with temporary exclusivity because it’s still more profitable than being on steam from release.
A few months with a 100% revenue share with less sales down to 30% will always beat 30% forever, especially when that 2nd launch brings a massive wave of sales because Steam also likes to market bringing big releases to it’s platform
Sometimes it does work great. I imagine Apex Legends would be dying or dead of it hadn’t moved to Steam. The increased playerbase was a huge boon to the game
I think apex moved to steam bc ea killed origin.
Ah well in that case, it’d certainly be dead if it hadn’t moved
Actually they replaced it with “EA App” last year. I’m pissed because the replacement for Origin doesn’t open The Sims 3 properly when using Create a World, so it thinks I’m just launching the game normally and doesn’t go in the correct mode to edit my world.
Baldur’s Gate 3 does this and I’d hardly say that applies lol
Balders gate 3 was always on steam though

Well, right now you know, a billion flies can’t be wrong…
They make shit games with shit practices because people keep playing and paying for them.
Yeah well I’m willing to guess that a good chunk of those players moved from battle.net to steam for convenience.
And even so, Overwatch 2 has barely half the active players that tf2 does, as I’m writing this, and tf2 is how old?
Overwatch 2 went down the drain and now we have some rough numbers to give us an idea of the situation.
Good - fuck Blizzard. They literally were like “We’re going to OW2 for PvE! I promise we’re totally not just doing it because we want to monetize it more!”
Shocked_pikachu.jpg
Also keep in mind they announced it at the same exact time that they wanted people to stop talking about them and Taiwan. And all the sexual harassment at Blizzard.
They had no details about it at the time. They just wanted something the mainstream press could run instead. And tanked a game to keep it from cementing on their face. Idiots.
set in an optimistic future
Can anyone here up to date on their Overwatch lore explain what that means? I’m not being snarky about the game being bad, I just haven’t played it and genuinely curious what they mean by that. From my understanding, the game is about killing each other lol
Last I heard Overwatch basically didn’t have lore. For the entirety of the lifespan of “Overwatch 1” (though overwatch 2 isn’t even actually a sequel) the timeline never advanced past the trailer cinematic from launch. All of the “lore” was just character backstory comics and backstory hints from their interactions in the spawn area of each match.
The gameplay really has nothing to do with the lore, but the lore never struck me as very optimistic. The premise of Overwatch is that once upon a time there was a team of superheroes who went around being superheroes and protecting people from the evil supervillains and stuff like that. But anyway, their superhero team collapsed and for a while it’s just been a shitty world where the supervillains do whatever they want. Now the superhero team is reforming with some new members. The end.
Idk how that could possibly be seen as optimistic personally lol
It’s just standard cape shit. Liberal optimism is a hero saves the world so I don’t have to care!
A virus caused killbot factories to start printing omnicidal killbots. Each country’s military was getting owned by the killbots so Overwatch was formed by soldiers from every military and some randos to shut down the factories. They suceeded, then became the world police. Robots were made to live beneath the cities and subject to “Detroit:Become Human” level discrimination. 10 years later, Overwatch was disbanded after a group betrayed them and bad press. 10 years later, some of the members came back to reform Overwatch.
Also their leader is a monkey who escaped from the moon.
…why… were there killbot factories?
I don’t know if that ever comes up. The whole thing started with “There’s a huge expansive world we wrote, this is just a tiny portion of it”, and then it turned out no, they were just generating characters to appeal to the largest audience possible and then inventing the world/backstory from that.
they were just generating characters to appeal to the largest audience possible and then inventing the world/backstory from that
When corporate calls for a copy-paste damaged goods femme fatale waifu with an exotic skin color and a corrupted backstory again.
i can
fixbe there for her
not very optimistic eh
OPTIMISTIC FUTURE
Overwatch was promised to have EPIC BLIZZARD STORYTELLING™ coming any moment now and for years a lot of credulous fans waited for more that… didn’t happen.
The porn flood that followed after (inevitable, because so many of the characters were committee-designed waifus) had more story packed in than the actual product.
In summary: (spoilers ahead)
AI created -> AI becomes monk, this is good AI -> bad AI also created, controlled by single mastermind AI -> bad AI kill humans -> Overwatch created -> good AI sacrifices herself to free other AI from bad AI mind control, thus becoming AI Jesus -> AI now have free will. Some become good, some stay bad. -> optimistic because AI Jesus saved humanity from being killed and now Overwatch is winning the war against bad AI
That’s about it.
From my understanding, the game is about killing each other lol
Yea, this will always be the problem when trying to create a story around this format of gameplay. You definitely have to ignore the fact that lore enemies can team up because the comp needs it.
The optimistic tone comes across in the character writing, world design, and music. Little in the game is dour or depressing. Instead the focus is on the details that make the locations or characters unique and interesting. There’s a lot of language and cultural representation.
Also, barring the secondary deathmatch game made, OW is technically about doing non-kill objectives, it just so happens that killing your opponents is the best way to complete the objectives.
It’s funny because on the scoreboard, traditional “Kills” are labelled “Eliminations”, but they still keep tradition for multikills i.e. the announcer will say double kill and not something double elim
All the maps and locations represent the respective nations most optimistic future of how they could look, chefk out any of the maps and youll get what i mean

(which is a lot more optimistic than the cinematic one lmao)
Nolan and Snyder saw to that.

ik theyre unpopular for their f2p model but it’s funny seeing the complaints when it’s already in the top 100 most active games on steam, and will likely remain there. Ngl I think they (blizzard) anticipated this response but knew it’d make them a bunch of money anyway
Link to the reviews: https://store.steampowered.com/app/2357570/Overwatch_2/#app_reviews_hash
There is something entertaining reading bad reviews, specially when it comes from shitty companies.
Seems about right.
Thing is, I actually like OW2’s core gameplay more than OW1. I can’t say it’s necessarily better than OW1 would have been if they hadn’t abandoned it for years to (fail to) build OW2’s PVE, but so it goes.
But I reinstalled just to see if I’d want to try with the new Invasion content, and here’s the thing:
I played about 5 rounds of QP. They were all horribly mismatched in terms of skill level, and I enjoyed 0 of them. So the idea of grinding through a new battle pass, although liking the RoboAna mythic skin, was a nonstarter even before talking about how crowded a launch season this is. Like even if I wanted to, I don’t have time for this battle pass.
And then the new PvE content? I mean maybe it’s good, but nothing about any of the PvE they’ve released in the past would support that. It’s been consistently mediocre IMO, so I dunno why I’d suddenly want to pay for the privilege.
I’m annoyed that I have about 2000 coins I’m never going to use (love that I can’t use them to buy the invasion bundle just to screw around with the new stuff), but I think it’s time to give up and move on.
I’m out of the loop, I thought it was already out due to them cutting out the PvE content.
It’s been out for a bit, but they just launched it on Steam as well. Was formerly just via Battle.net.
Launch on Steam
Eventually people will need to accept that the Blizzard we all loved died long ago, and stop rewarding the ghoul that now inhabits its corpse.
It died many years ago, and it should have been a signed death certificate moment to see one of the main people behind the original two Diablo games, one that had gotten vocally critical of the bullshit at Blizzard and had left to start the Torchlight series, received a “fuck that loser” Twitter remark from one of the corporate failsons wriggling around in Blizzard’s corporate corpse.
EDIT: The early company wasn’t that wholesome chungus either; the systemic sexism was there basically from the start, especially with the “listing the only female employee as the dog roaming the office”
This is one of the reasons why I don’t really want to buy the new Diablo game even though my friends are playing it and it sounds like it’s gotten good reviews. checks metacritic, critics score 86, user score currently at 2.0 Yeah figures lol
Im embarrassed it took me until Diablo 4’s 1.1.0 patch to finally figure this out, but here we are.
As an OW1 enjoyer (yes it had alot of flaws too) and around 300~ hrs in OW1, OW2 was not nearly as fun, even all the way up to them shutting down OW1
-matchmaking sucks, you either rolled or get rolled no inbetween (i felt ow1 had better games overall) -Tanks, which i main became such a chore, or just completely rolled due to skill differences -Healers became too easy to pick off/couldnt do much to protect themselfs And controversial opinion: -The change from 6v6 to 5v5 was one of the worst changes for me, it made it rely on individual performance way too much… one pick and your teams fucked, with a 6v5 i felt that you had somewhat of a chance of not being rolled as bad, or at least not being completely wiped and regrouping
It sucks seeing one of my fave games feom that peroid go down the shitter; at least TF2 has my back as always
Your bullet points are messed up and are a wall of text. To fix it, put a space between the dash and the text
matchmaking sucks, you either rolled or get rolled no inbetween (i felt ow1 had better games overall)
I think matchmaking is only a little worse, but it feels a lot worse because OW2 is simultaneously more transparent and less transparent in the worst ways.
I think steamrolls happen at the same rate in either game, but in OW2 the detailed scoreboard makes it much more apparent when a steamroll is happening, since you can compare stats across both teams. OW1 just had personal stats, the vague medal system, and no enemy stats, so the only way to tell you were getting rolled is if you lost multiple team fights in a row.
On the other hand, not being able to see anyone’s rank makes it much easier to blame losses on matchmaking. Also, the MMR system was a little fucky on launch with new players being placed higher than they should.
Tanks, which i main became such a chore, or just completely rolled due to skill differences
Yeah, tanking has less depth to it, since there’s only one. Tanks basically have two choices - stand in the front and try to be a meat shield while your team gets a pick, or dive the backline and hopefully secure a pick before the rest of your team falls over. Either way, there’s a lot of pressure on the tank to do the right thing, and a lot of pressure on the team to keep the tank alive.
Healers became too easy to pick off/couldnt do much to protect themselfs
I strongly disagree with this (except if we’re talking about Lifeweaver). All of the supports have enough tools to at least escape a 1v1 situation against most DPS characters, if not win it. They all either have movement, CC/knockback abilities, raw damage output, or usually some combination (or all) of those. Being able to regen health out of combat also makes supports less reliant on health packs or self heals, which helps survivability as well.
The change from 6v6 to 5v5 was one of the worst changes for me, it made it rely on individual performance way too much… one pick and your teams fucked
I’ve noticed the opposite, that is actually easier to turn a 4v5 or even a 3v5 with a single well used ult, where in the original you’d have to use at least two ults to burn through two tanks’ HP.
IDK, at the end of the day I enjoy both games gameplay wise, but they are very different experiences, so I understand why people have preferences towards one or the other.
It’s incredible how out of touch the /r/overwatch community is with the general feeling and attitude that exists towards the game and company outside of it.
Is the game playable and can you have an alright time with it? Sure. Will you feel slightly dirty about it? Yes. Is the problem “lack of communication from the company” - fuck no it’s not. It’s all the other shit. Redditors think communication can smooth over being absolute dicks to the community and that’s just not correct. You can communicate all you want but it won’t resolve destroying Overwatch 1 to force people to play 2, and it won’t resolve the changes people dislike that they’d rather be playing the first game, and it won’t resolve the monetisation being shit, and it won’t resolve the way the company treats employees, and it won’t resolve the terrible reporting system that ignores actual slurs but permabans people for nonsense, etc etc etc. The list goes on.
But over on /r/overwatch they pretend it’s all just meaningless and a problem with communication. It’s not. They’re fundamentally out of touch with reality.
ActiBlizz fans that are still there and still paying are about as deeply invested as Star Citizen backers at this point.
I agree.
Also, “better communication” in videogame communities is like pizza parties are to employees.
“better communication” in videogame communities is like pizza parties are to employees.
At least those have fucking pizza instead of just “we’re still doing the corporate skullduggery thing we did before but we’re going to phrase it in a less incendiary way” communication without pizza.
“We hear you.”
And then you get the fans saying “The company needs to do a better job saying ‘we hear you’.”
They usually phrase it like “CONSUMER FRIENDLY” which is such a roll-over-and-show-belly way of begging toward the ruling class.
ActiBlizz fans that are still there and still paying are about as deeply invested as Star Citizen backers at this point.
Indeed. bought SC in 2014. I think I accepted I got scammed and moved on around 2015.
It’s insane to me there’s still some people to this day that don’t realize it’s a pure scam.
critically acclaimed
How long before launch did those critics acclaim it?
about 6 years before, when the actual good version of the game first launched

about 6 years before, when the actual good version of the game first launched
That was about the last time it seemed somewhat believable outside of the credulous fandom that there might be more story incoming past the hype trailers, too.
Apparently it is right now the only game on Steam that is elegible to be classified as “Overwhelmingly Negative” to have less than 10% of reviewers to recommend the game. Is this a new world record?
