    I see this criticism a lot, especially with the Costco Guys, as if families aren’t allowed to have fun together and make videos. Younger kids are used to stuff being recorded, they really don’t think much of it.

    Idk I think some people unfortunately grew up in shitty families that never had fun together and they get mad when they see people having different experiences from their own

      The “Costco guys” arent a good example of a family just having wholesome fun. It may have started that way, but it is very much a business now.

      There are behind the scenes videos from collabs/etc that show its shot just like any other web show/content. Scripts, Multiple takes, embedded ads, etc.

        Who’s to say the son isn’t getting his fair cut? And who’s to say they aren’t still having fun even though they’re making money off it? Yeah, those behind the scenes videos come off as strange to people who think it’s all candid, but the reality is very little social media content is candid.

        Again, I think people see a family having fun at wrestling events and get jealous about their 9-5 desk job not being nearly as fun

          These “family funtime” youtubers are doing a job. Its there “9 to 5” like everyone else. A lot of it is just as tedious or worse than what other people do for money. I sure hope the son has a trust set up, because hes a child actor.

          You think Mr. Beast is just “hanging with the boys” too? No, he’s got a whole company, formulaic scripts, re-takes, marketing plans, exploitive policies that take advantage of people like every other company, on and on and on.

          These people are working. They are not there selflessly to feed your parasocial needs. The bad ones will gladly pretend they are, but its work all the same.

          The streamers/vlogers that are good and honest about it can still be lots fun to watch and occasionally interact with, but the people that make it big either got in very early, got very lucky or are extraordinarily entertainers in their own right.
