I didn’t mind the M, but F, and L can fucken suck it.

We should play together some time. We would make the perfect duo. Also, I think I saw that a set of Contras is/was on sale on Steam, because a new 2d Contra is being released soon.
I bought it on Switch (I think) last year and found out that I suck much more than when I was 8yo.
Well, that honestly probably makes two of us then. Games back then were fucking brutal. They couldn’t rely on flashy videos and graphics. The replayability was in the difficulty and bragging rights (if you finished it). Contra though was one of those games that I always felt was fair.
Anyway, if you ever get the itch, hit me up. I have switch and steam.

That just sounds like S but with more chaotic aiming and haphazard jumping.
It is. It definitely isn’t as good as S. But it gets the job done.
F is a close second to S for things that are hard to hit when you’re taking cover.

Laser was the best gun in contra 1 but required skill. It melted bosses and machines.
Yeah one with Spread to wipe dudes, one with Laser for materiel.
I haven’t played much of the arcade version of Contra, but on the NES version, the S can actually shoot faster. There’s a limit to the bullets you can have on screen, so if you mash the button fast enough, you get to shoot again as soon as a bullet leaves the screen. If there’s nothing to stop your bullets before the hit the edge of the screen, you’ll end up with a line of bullets in front and a spread of 3 bullets. If there are any obstacles that stop your bullets early, eventually, you just end up with a stream of bullets in a straight line in front of you with no more spread.
The laser only does 4 hits per beam, but you can only have one beam on screen at a time, and if you fire again before it hits, it just disappears before firing the new shot.
