I am not sure who would be genuinely surprised. Pain is essential to learn and adapt, we also know how complex behaviours and societies insects can build.
I guess it’s good to spread the word against those who wants to deny this.

Just more evidence that the world is a horror show of unavoidable suffering. We do what we can (I am vegan), but we are in a world where harmlessness is impossible. =-(
