The BBC has announced that over 800 episodes of Doctor Who – from across the classic and modern era – will soon be available to stream on iPlayer.
Though episodes from the show’s post-2005 relaunch already sit on the platform, from 1st November fans will also be able to enjoy episodes from the original 1963-89 run.
…
Not only that, but various spin-off series will also return to iPlayer – including The Sarah Jane Adventures, Torchwood, Class and behind-the-scenes series Doctor Who Confidential.
Please let this mean Disney+ will be getting it in the rest of the world - there’s no legal way to watch Classic Who in Australia anymore, as all the DVDs are out of print and Britbox got rid of it in April.
I wonder if it’s too much to hope for 50hz versions. Seem to recall the Britbox episodes were 25hz (at least initially when I had a trial). I find classic Who unwatchable at 25hz sadly. Got to have that smooth video camera motion for the studio scenes!
If it’s a permanent fixture it could be a Britbox killer for me… I suspect it’ll just be for the anniversary period.
Still great news though!
