Yeah you have to register your drone with the FAA, at least I did when I had mine. They take that shit very seriously and this dumb dumb can catch a felony charge and even land himself on a no-fly list.

If you pay attention to recent events we may be living through a short time period of the drone wild Wild West. The military and terrorist applications for drones are becoming increasingly clear, Ukraine/Israel for example.

I wouldn’t be surprised if in a few years it required a license and a background check to buy a drone in the US.

I mean is there a way to trace where the drone flew from? If not, I dont see how the FAA can track down a drone operator. This was a big sized drone compared to the smaller ones

Yeah, there’s enough eyes in the sky, digital footprints, etc to narrow it down. They’ll probably start by identifying the drone visually, then getting a subpoena for Amazon for purchases matching that. Mix that with satellite imagery and radars in the area, they can probably spot exactly where it took off from. Then it’s on to traffic cameras from that and dude is cooked.

My cousin is super anal about people flying drones. He actually flys drones for a living, doing land surveys, agricultural evaluations, etc. He went to school for 4 years to get his degree and licensure and he hates that people can just buy drones and do stupid shit like this. He thinks it should be a minimum 40 hour class to get a recreational drone license in order to buy a drone.

It would dissuade people from buying drones and doing stupid things and it would teach people who actually want to fly drones all the things they need to not make mistakes like this.

The law could probably throw due process out the window and label you a terrorist if they want to make an example of this. Imagine if a senator or governor was at the game. They are gonna want to nail someone to the wall.
