Last year I thought Mahomes and Hurts were good enough for MVP. I would give it to CMC or a defensive player. No QB deserves it so far.

For the first time I think this should legitimately the case. I can’t think of an offensive player who’s for sure the best in their position. But Miles Garret is for SURE the best of his.

It feels wrong to give the MVP to a player like Purdy when Miles Garret exists.

I mean I woulda made the argument for Watt couple years ago when he tied the record.

Garrett is insanely good and his stats are crazy. But a defensive player just won’t win MVP. There needs to be a split QB winner and MVP for other positions

Another non QB that should be in the discussion is CMC. It sucks because the only way people will realize just how essential he is to that offense is if he gets injured.

The last defensive player to win MVP literally changed how the game was played. As good as Myles is, it’s just not how things work in today’s NFL.

The only non-QB that makes any sense this year is McCaffrey, and even so I don’t think he should get it. QB is such an inherently valuable position that non-QBs winning almost doesn’t make any sense. Hell, at least half of the QBs in the league are more important to their team succeeding than any one defensive player could ever be.

Have you seen Maxx Crosby’s numbers? The Cowboy’s are in a position to do more than the Raiders, but a simple nod of respect is not out of order.

    Myles vs Crosby

Seriously he almost has half as many pick sixes in a little over half a season as Woodson had in his long career. If he gets to 6 or even 7, I think there will be a serious conversation about him. Thats half a hall of fame career in one year. It’s insanity.

I don’t see how Bland can get it without his end of season overall interception numbers being record breaking. The Pick 6 record is nice but I’d ultimately want to see total interceptions in the season way up there.

After his pick six last night I’m worried Myles will miss another DPOY. Besides the INTs, has Bland been a shut down corner?

Entering the game against Washington, he’d allowed more than 50 yards just once all season. 23 catches on 41 targets, 230 yards and 1 TD (that dime from Hurts to Devonta). Funnily enough, I think he allowed a decent amount of yards vs. the Commanders. (these are the Pro Football Reference numbers)

He’s played awful teams. I think Myles gets it if he doesn’t win MVP and Stroud should get MVP if Myles doesn’t.

I’m not even kidding, this is how I feel.

MVP is Lamar or Myles, (or Jason Kelce in my dreams)

      OPOY: CMC

      DPOY: Bland

      OROY: Stroud

      DROY: Witherspoon/Carter

      And it seems pretty obvious

Garrett isn’t even the best defensive player in the league. It’s Bland right now.

Getting pressures and sacks at the rate Garrett them isn’t as potent as the coverage and pick-6s Bland gets. The effect Bland has on the offense is greater than Garrett’s.

Sacks might not even end a drive. Pick sixes end drives and get points. The only more impactful play you could have than that is injuring the QB.

You can scheme away and behind the leagues best pass rushers and have success. If you scheme away from a CB, you’re shutting down half of the field on some plays.

WRs are better and more effective than ever before. Edge USED to be the most important position on D, now its Corner. We’re at a shift in the league thats been happening for the last couple years. Advanced analytics backs this up.

Also, whether you like it or not, QBs are more valuable than any other position by a mile and its not up for debate. It also doesn’t matter that there isn’t a clear-cut MVP in your eyes. Just because we don’t have guys chasing records every year doesn’t suddenly make Bland, Garret, Donald and Watt more valuable. You just want a cool story of a season so great it “almost” rises to as valuable as a QB. I hate that it’s a value award too, but I won’t lie to myself for narratives. Give us a most outstanding performance award or similar.

You might say consensus is changing on Edge being more important, but the salaries for edge rushers still are an order higher than CBs, and edges are still drafted higher more often.

Contract markets can take years to shift for one. Two, the flaw in that line of thinking is that obviously annual pay doesn’t equate to JUST your effect on the field, there are other factors like how it’s generally safer to invest in an edge guy because they can come back from injury easier, you lose a step at corner and your CAREER might be over. Same in the draft, they don’t just draft edge because of its importance, they draft them because they’re easier to scout and they are a WAY safer pick. I would do the same thing at the top of the draft.
