He definitely didn’t secretly have a torn ligament. That’s not an injury you can hide and attempt to play on.

No, you’re not getting it. Burrow purposefully played fine through the whole week in practice, warmups, and the game (until he got his hand flattened at an awkward angle under himself and a 260 lb linebacker), but only to cover up his wrist injury he wanted to not get seen or treated.

He trusted the compression sleeve to heal him right up instead of medical professionals he’s worked with extensively on multiple occasions

Is this the “but why did Brady trash his phone during deflategate” argument?

You don’t need an explanation. It could be any number of things but it’s not because he had a secret wrist injury. He wears that compression glove regularly when flying.

Not to mention we saw a play where his wrist got fucked. He threw another pass and almost fell over in pain. Then he left the game. His wrist may have been sore before the game but he was not playing through a tear.

I’m so glad we have so many sports medicine physicians here to clarify that partial tears, inflammation, or injuries that preceed a full tear aren’t a thing.

if Burrow had a torn ligament prior to the game how was he throwing the ball in the first quarter?

You can have a ligament strain without tearing it. I think everyone agrees if it was really torn he would not have played. It seems a little suspicious though that the first time anyone saw him in that sleeve was right before a game where he had a season ending injury. My thoughts are more that he had a strain to the ligament (which normally he would be able to play through but got his hand smashed under the d lineman) however I’m no doctor and it’s all speculation at this point. Either way I feel bad for the dude and hope IF there was a previous injury that it doesn’t mean he’s worse off down the line

Just because it was aggravated in-game doesn’t mean it didn’t already exist beforehand.

Ultimately, it really doesn’t matter if he had an injury before the game in my opinion (although he clearly didn’t have a tear before the game). As far as I’m aware, the Questionable or Doubtful tags are simply meant to provide a probability of a player playing in the game. Even if Burrow was injured, it’s not “illegal” to not list him as Questionable if it was never a question he was going to play.

I’m calling it now, in 10 years gambling is gonna get made illegal again because it’s going to cause a new opioid crisis. Fan Duel and Draft kings are the Purdue Pharma of the 2020s. Just wait til the divorce rate skyrockets because dad put this months rent money on a team parlay. Just like how we look back at the late 90s and early 2000s with horror at the OxyContin pill mills where anyone could get a prescription for opioids, we are going too look back in horror that every sports league in America has gambling plastered. All these media people who have been metaphorically telling us to try OxyContin are going to flip the script and be like “I can’t believe gambling has gotten this out of control,” and pretend they weren’t part of the problem. And let’s not forget that there isn’t a lot of economic prosperity right now. Millions of people are doing worse than they were before. Gambling is gonna be seen as a way to get rich quick, and it’s only gonna make the issue worse.

Even the national media. I swear it’s not even about who is a good team or not anymore, it’s just who can cover or not. I really hate it as a non-gambler

I think they can use plausible deniability here because whatever was bothering Burrow before was not the same injury that took him out and therefore was not a “wrist problem”. It could have been carpal tunnel for all we know. My wife wears a wrist brace at work for that. Maybe he was playing video games on the plane and just wanted to wear a brace so he wouldn’t get any pain to crop up or something.
