Alaska state health officials say an elderly man has died from Alaskapox. It’s the first known fatality from the recently discovered virus.
Are these people seriously with their naming of diseases?
Alaskapox, also known as AKPV, is related to smallpox, cowpox and mpox, health officials said.
Turns out, Alaskapox was the less bad name…

Can’t wait die on the dance floor.
Just kidding, it’ll be alone in my bathroom.
Is mpox the same thing as monkeypox but we stopped calling it that? Why?
Maybe we should just stop naming poxes.
Oh! I forgot, but they changed monkeypox to mpox.

Unofficially, monkeypox also had some racist undertones and seemed to be slowing people getting treatment. (That is not cited in the link above, but is in other articles.)
Right? Obvious name would be Alpox
“cat frequently scratched the patient” lol
Dang, I was just planning on a trip to Alaska to get scratched by stray cats. I guess I’ll have to cancel now that this newfangled Alaskapox has popped up.
