"I just released a really important Apollo update that adds the ability for users with remaining subscription time left to decline an automatic refund. Devs pay refunds out of pocket, and this will be about $250K, so I thank you for your consideration. ❤️ Also, this update includes an amazing “Goodbye Apollo Wallpaper Set” for your phone, tablet, or desktop, created by outrageously talented Apollo icon designers. You can unlock the pack with a donation that helps with refund costs. 🙂”
Infuriating that this is going ahead. Apollo was Reddit. For me, Reddit no longer exists.
Amen.
I just went through and unsubbed 90% of my subs. Now when I go on reddit to check something, it’s just too boring to stick around for long.
I wonder if Christian will implement an account nuking or overwrite feature or something in his last update.
There’s Redacted for that though, works great. I would do it before they change API pricing in a day or two
WTF! I payed for pro and ultra and i deleted my account already lol
You’re all good! I’m also an Ultra + Pro user and there’s no refund needed. Apple treats that kind of transaction as a one time payment. It’s only those who subscribe for a set amount of time (month or year) that are offered refunds.
F
That just means you’ve donated your refund to a good cause.

There’s a client named Artemis under development that’s heavily inspired by Apollo, don’t know if any devs are crossing over though.
There is also this awesome web app

holy shit this is perfect, i pray they add support for us kbin accounts to log in
Talk with the dev, maybe he adds it :)
Thanks for the shoutout! App is coming along!
a video and pics of current alpha build.
And see this toot, of me having fun with force touch to preview links :p
is artemis going to be on android?
Not hariette, but yes it will! I am currently testing it on android :)
Yes! Artemis is being developed for both iOS and Android.
Thunder is the most polished iOS app I’ve found so far, but I like the direction mlem and memmy are headed more.
It might happen, I suppose, but he may be wanting to hedge his bets. Lemmy/kbin don’t have the same userbase (yet) and that userbase is an input into what kind of revenue is available for an app author.
Apollo seems incredibly smart. I’m sure this is the right answer. I hope july 1st is wild and we get more users
Lifetime Ultra user here, I hope most people opt out. Such a shitty situation, hope reddit suffers the consequences.
They won’t in the short term.
In the long run they’ll hopefully go the way of myspace/digg.
It takes a long time for a juggernaut to die. They can circle the drain for years
Didn’t realize a refund would be a reverse payment, although that makes sense after thinking about it. Not as big of a problem to face if a developer is given more than 30 days to shut things down. Can he seek financial damage for Huffman’s rash and illogical decision? Probably not, but not a lawyer.

If Christian made business decisions based on promises made by Reddit which they reneged on, he has a case under promissory estoppel.
He already has a case for libel based on statements made by spez.
And didn’t they tell him there would be no major API changes, specifically in terms of cost “in 2023”?

I ditched Reddit because of this… Apollo for Lemmy would be so great!
Edit: Here you https://shreddit.com/
Does anyone know a reliable way to nuke your reddit account without manually going through and deleting everything?
I used PowerDeleteSuite which I’ve been told is a more privacy focused alternative and I found it really simple to use. Took a few minutes to nuke the account data. If you are replacing your comments it takes quite a bit longer though.
Also, anyone who wants to use this tools should probably do it before this months ends. These tools rely on the API to work.
