    • Being able to choose to be so good at talking to people that you have a significant chance of bringing them around to your point of view when you try.

IRL, the trick is to only bother if you know they’re very open-minded or are part of a tight-knit open-minded community. But that would usually mean you’d have to find a solution to the “making close friends as an adult” part too.

Nah, the trick is being good at manipulation to the point people don’t even consider the fact you’re gaslighting them, they actually think you’re helping them. Granted, it takes a certain amount of natural charisma to pull this off but it works.

Source - just some guy I know who is really awesome and totally has his shit together for real. Believe me, he told me.

Practice can help with both of those. I’m fairly introverted, but I constantly force myself to say stuff to people even if I think it might be cringey. Of course, in the beginning, it was, but eventually I got better at talking to people. Now, I can make friends with my co-workers fairly well, and articulate my points coherently enough (and importantly, in real-time) that I am able to bring people over to ‘my side’ with reasonable success.

Down side is, it’s exhausting for me to do, so if I have a week at work where I’m in a lot of meetings or have a lot of interactions like that, my brain is so well and fried by the weekend that all I want to do is sit there and stare at a wall for 48h. WFH during Covid has helped considerably with that aspect, as it’s moved most of my conversations into chat or email, but that also means I have to work a bit harder at forcing myself into situations where I have to communicate.

I just realized that several of my characters have done close to that. They preferred to just send the rich people a document declaring the secession of the city that we were based out of, from the larger kingdom. It was almost always because the king was involved in one war, and decided to start another one, and ordered magic users to the front lines.

Congratulations kingy, now you have 3 wars to deal with, and we just took a bunch of temples, and the wizards’ college with us.

What’s fucked up is even if I sleep 10 hours a night (spoiler alert: I don’t) I still don’t feel like I slept.

You may want to look into a sleep study (assuming you can afford it or are not American). There are some sleep problems that can cause you to not feel rested even with a ton of sleep.

I wish I could, but I can’t for the same reason I don’t sleep restfully these days. I am currently living in two different states trying to sell my house in one state while packing and painting and fixing everything while simultaneously opening up a new branch for my company halfway across the country and dealing with employees in both states who don’t seem to understand I’m only one person, and just a normal human at that, and if that wasn’t enough, I’m the type of person who can’t say no and I overchieve everything. It’s stress but it’s the kind of stress I can consider good because the way my brain works If I sit still I might fucking explode. Pretty sure I’m ADD but in a way that I’ve learned to take advantage of it because I’m not medicated or anything. The plus side is I’m getting ahead in life for once and eventually I will over do it to the point I break down and it all becomes someone else’s problem while I chill in the psych ward taking to myself about things that aren’t real lol

I exaggerate a bit but I’m fucking wired for sound and no one will stop me because life is short and I’ve got shit to do. I’m fortunate actually, because I love what I’m doing but it will fucking break me one day if I’m not careful.

This is not medical advice, but assume your sleep is fucked for a reason, if you actually feel like you’re sleeping during that time, the most common reason by far is sleep apnea. If you have sleep apnea, the best solution is likely going to be losing weight and exercising or buying an expensive machine to sleep with (probably both to start with).

However, getting to the point… the cheap but not nearly as good solution is to sleep on your side and use breathe right strips. You may not sleep well, but you’ll sleep slightly better.

I’m actually very fit and active. I do sleep on my side but I’ll give those strips a shot and see what happens, thanks.

A long rest is only 6 hours of “sleep”, although I guess you could sleep the whole time if you don’t need to prepare spells.

Don’t forget about owning property and even opening a business. (Doesn’t have to be bar but can be)
