Good chance all that old Macbook needed was a good cleaning. Dust builds up in the heatsinks of laptops, and then they shut down to save themselves when it’s too hot.

Had an old Toshiba that started working like new once I cleared all the cat hair.

This comment would be more relevant if Macs were easier to open up and clean instead of forcing people to throw away perfectly good hardware. It’s not even about replacing parts at this point, just cleaning the damn thing.
