In defense of circular chart recorders: if set up and maintained correctly they’re incredibly reliable. Companies still make them for a reason, and they’re popular anywhere that stores irreplaceable and delicate things – museums, libraries, archives, etc.
Like you said, why bother with an upgrade if it still works and there’s no compelling reason to?
