Sorry for the bad quality.

My grandfather had this in his office. He worked as a computer engineer so I initally thought it was a zoomed-in picture of a computer chip or something, but maybe it is something large.

He’s not alive anymore so I can’t ask him. If somebody can help me out, that would be great.

Can we not turn this community into a place where everyone comes to make some shitty joke?

Is there a midpoint between getting banned for making a joke and keeping things somewhat to the point? It does look like a bed of ramen. Now I want ramen…

It’s that or there’s nothing to add if it’s been answered. So you either allow some fun, or the only point is to have the single right answer and everything else has to be removed.

r/whatisthisthing didn’t seem to have any issues. If it hadn’t been answered, people would give their best guess and jokes were removed. If it was a low hanging fruit post, mods allowed a few jokes after it was answered then started removing comments or the post was locked and tagged as being solved.

          Matter of scale.

They had enough posts to keep things engaging.

Remove all but the right posts here and it’ll be dead in days. Gotta build the engagement and content before you moderate with an iron fist. No one wants to hang around and see 1 thing get answered a week.
