IMO, any organization that claims to support Libre software NEEDS to be on Libre social media platforms, fediverse or otherwise.

Good point. It’s also really easy to bulletin similar information to, say, Mastodon, as it is their Twitter account! Plenty of other less tech-savvy organisations do this.

They have links on the bottom of their web page to Twitter, Youtube, Facebook, Instagram, and Flikr…I get that thats where people need the most saving but FFS boost the numbers of the good-guys at least

Totally agree. It’s the exact same problem when you see everyone at the Linux Foundation using Macbooks. If you really believed in a platform you would make some attempt to use it yourself.

It would be very nice if they had a cross-poster from Fediverse to Twitter, instead of vice versa. It would be a one-time investment in setting it up and learning how to use it, and then no further time investment related to what they are already doing right now.

It’s not official, but someone has made a mirror bot for the EFF’s Twitter: https://mastodon.social/web/@eff

Obviously the biggest issue there is that no one can actually contact the EFF by replying to those Mastodon posts, versus they would see your replies on Twitter. A mirror bot is good for keeping up with the information an organization posts, but it definitely isn’t a “presence” of that organization on the Fediverse.

Indeed. I am following that, but not boosting very often too, for the same reason of not being a real presence.

While they are important and I do suppsupport them seeing their stuff on conferences using macs and iphone didn’t fill me with happiness.

How can you preach one thing and show another is beyond me.

So they ignoring fediverse is not surprising.

I think it’s easier to justify the necessary evil of managing corporate social media than it is to navigate which Libre platforms they should and should not support. Ideally the Fediverse would sidestep those kinds of concerns but that’s probably idealistic

If they didn’t have a fediverse account 5 years ago, they’re a dead and pointless organization. It’s not like this stuff is new.
