And could imagine doing this live, online?

I’m a keyboardist with extensive experience playing live online. It’s really revolutionized rehearsals for my bands actually. I run a low-latency Jamulus server to host live music though. What did you have in mind?

I hope you’re not bored of reading all this.

But someone, like with your background, I just don’t think you’ve told me one about the horse, I’d like to tell you things in a bit more detail. 😃 ;-)

I have always been a very enjoyable consumer at these ‘Privacy Week Vienna’ online events. I was never involved in the planning and realisation (unfortunately?).

I still have four! simultaneous translators! forgotten, sorry. 😃

For me, the mother of all online events is a great, great orientation. From high-calibre journalists and IT specialists to outstanding musicians. Everything about ‘Jitsi Meet’, really, really great, in Corona times.

Unfortunately, this event no longer exists. It was cancelled at its peak. But there are endeavours to revive it. 😃 ;-) It took years for them to get there, but they got better every year. The ‘Privacy Week Vienna’ was organised with the Chaos Computer Club, CCC Vienna. I imagine something along these lines with the ‘Vivaldi Live Talk’. 😃 ;-) Only much, much smaller. Not as professional, of course.

Unfortunately, it couldn’t be shorter. Now I’ve described the rough framework for you.

      Thank you

Ohhh, hello, that sounds really, really great. And you also run your own ‘Jamulus’ server. You don’t do that if you don’t enjoy these things. 😃 ;-) Let me tell you what this is all about.

We’re already planning a regular, German-language (doesn’t matter if you don’t speak German) ‘Vivaldi Live Talk’ online event for Germany, Austria and Switzerland. https://discuss.tchncs.de/post/14626610 under here

In the initial phase, there will be several events at not too long intervals. Initially there will be an open discussion, which of course will not be recorded, about everything to do with the Vivaldi browser, including planned and prepared topics. These events may last a little longer, there should be room for topics that arise during the event.

There should be a cultural programme according to the motto Vivaldi users delight Vivaldi users and interested parties. This could include all kinds of activities, such as slide shows with photos taken by the users themselves, photos of pictures they have painted, sculptures and artefacts. Literature Readings of your own texts or recitations by known and unknown authors, whatever you particularly like. And music, of course. Self-played, of course also cover versions, preferably live, but recordings are also nice if they are homemade.

I don’t know if you’ve ever experienced ‘Privacy Week Vienna’.

Interesting! Unfortunately you’re too far away for a live session with me, I’m in the US. The singer for my Oktoberfest band lives in Munich, and we tested this already. There’s just too much latency to play together live across the globe.

Side note, Jitsi Meet is the tool I use for video though. Jitsi video with Jamulus audio and you’ve got an impressive working online solution for live music. Bandwidth isn’t a huge factor since Jamulus reguires very little bandwidth per channel (and the video doesn’t really matter as much). But Latency matters a LOT, and distance from the server has a massive impact on that.

I wish you luck in your endeavor though; I hope it works out for ya!

But it became the big, big scale for me. Because it inspired me so much.

Which, as you can probably tell, I still am today.

At that time, I was organising a literature café online with another open source group via ‘Jitsi Meet’. My own literature and recitations by female authors combined with live music.

But we never made it to ‘Jamulus’, it was always just a dream. 😃 ;-)

At several Chaos Computer Club, CCC events in Corona times, I was also able to gain experience as an online ‘angel’.

Pheww, hope you haven’t fallen asleep.

Even if this doesn’t work out for us, here’s a proper description of the project.
