        Hmm.

        Play this: Nonbasic lands are islands -> Only basic lands are in play now.

        Now play bloodmoon: Nonbasic lands are mountains -> doesn’t affect anything because there are zero non-basic lands in play.

        follow up question: what happens when a new non-basic land enters play?

          They don’t gain the Basic super type, they just lose their subtypes and become Islands instead. So they’re still non-basics, so I believe timestamps would apply

            Timestamps do apply. This is why Dryad of the Illysian Grove overwrites Blood Moon’s ability if it comes out afterwards (but not before).

    That double pip of blue hurts it a lot as you can’t drop basic and a sol land like the dragon stompy/initiative stompy decks tend to do

      Yeah probably by design to keep that play pattern out of the older formats 😕
