My opinion
This is a non-story. Uli Hoeness is not confident otherwise he’d not be coming out and saying he’s confident. He’s posturing. The situation hasn’t changed: they haven’t bid enough (yet) and Levy isn’t budging. What Kane wants is the same: he’s open to a move. But that’s not news.
Summary
-
Uli Hoeness made a clear statement in Bayern Munich’s training camp about the transfer poker for Harry Kane. He is confident that Tottenham will “crack” and let Kane go, as he wants to move to Munich.
-
Karl-Heinz Rummenigge and other FCB officials are already in talks with Kane. The striker has signaled internally that he wants to join Bayern.
-
Tottenham boss Daniel Levy is still playing for time and not naming a transfer fee. Bayern has so far bid 80 million plus bonuses, but doesn’t want to go over 100 million.
-
Kane wants to play internationally, which won’t be possible with Tottenham next season. His agents support the transfer wish.
-
Thomas Tuchel confirms that Bayern is looking for a top striker. They are ready to “fully commit” if they are convinced by a player.
-
Overall, Bayern Munich is optimistic that the transfer will still go through this summer, as Kane is firmly committed to wanting the move.
Clear statement from Uli Hoeness on Bayern’s pursuit of Harry Kane!
“Harry Kane has made it crystal clear in all our talks that his mind is made up - and if that holds, we’ll get him, because then Tottenham will have to cave in!”, the former Bayern manager said at the club’s training camp in Tegernsee when asked by SPORT1.
Rummenigge in talks with Kane
Hoeness hasn’t “spoken as often” with Kane personally, but “Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has regularly, as well as Jan-Christian Dreesen and all who are actively involved in transfers right now.”
Former chairman Rummenigge is back on the supervisory board and he and Hoeness, also on the board, are pulling the strings again behind the scenes. Both are part of the task force (“Sports Committee”) with CEO Dreesen, President Hainer, CFO Dr. Diederich and Director Neppe that decides Bayern’s transfer strategy.
The Kane poker could drag into August, but there’s great confidence within Bayern that the Premier League club, still blocking so far, will cave in the coming weeks and grant their star’s wish due to his firm commitment to move.
Hoeness on dealing with Spurs’ boss
“Levy (Spurs boss Daniel Levy) is of course clever, he’s not naming a number,” Hoeness said. “First we have to get him to name a price. He’s obviously playing for time. I think he’s a crafty, top professional and I respect him greatly - but on the other side there are also people who haven’t just started doing this yesterday.”
Regarding Kane, Hoeness added: “He wants to play in Europe, which unfortunately Spurs aren’t next season. He now has another chance to join an elite European club. What we all like: his agents are also very agreeable in this case. His father and brother have stood by their word so far. If that continues, it’s fine."
Tottenham finished 8th in the Premier League, with Kane scoring 30 goals.
Kane? What Hoeness found “totally crazy”
The hurdle remains the transfer fee. Bayern have so far bid €80m plus bonuses. They may increase their offer again. But they don’t want to overpay, and certainly not match the sums above €100m circulating in England a year before Kane’s Spurs contract expires.
As recently as March, former president Hoeness blasted a potential Kane move costing far over €100m as “totally crazy.”
What Tuchel says about Kane to Bayern
Bayern Munich coach Thomas Tuchel on striker Harry Kane:
Of course the club is looking for a genuine “number nine” who’s a perfect fit for Bayern in ability and character. “We’re ready to go all in if we’re fully convinced about a player,” Tuchel said at the Rottach-Egern training camp. “Otherwise, we trust the players we have.”
Honestly I don’t know what Bayern are trying to achieve here. I think they’re just annoyed that they can’t financially compete for Kane’s asking price and are trying to bully us like they do to the other bundesliga clubs. They’re coming off as incredibly entitled.
