I just started playing Disco Elysium, I’m about 3 hours in and I have no idea what I’m doing. The voice acting is fantastic though, so that’s nice!

That’s a normal feeling, and one that I think is intended. Disco Elysium is a game that is, fundamentally, about being a fuck-up.

The game is least forgiving in the first few days, after that, it really opens out into people remembering the choices you’ve made in the game. Even if you’ve still been making bad choices, it’s pretty fun from there.

I too am taking advantage of the summer sale and am about 20 hours in and still wildly infatuated with this weird, weird amazing game.

After a while you start getting a slightly better idea of what’s going on, but that doesn’t make it more “game like” if anything, the more you learn about the game, the more it reveals itself to be a giant tool to explore meta-narratives and there are some moments of conversation regarding this that are absolutely chilling.

just remember to save often, it autosaves rarely and it will likely force you to load a save many times, especially early on

Upper left: Sherlock Holmes Upper right: Inspector Columbo Lower right: The Detective of the video game „Disco Elyseum“

I don’t know who‘s the guy on lower left.

If you don’t know Columbo or the game, I recommend both. Best go in without much knowledge about them. It will be fun.

Highly recommend watching the original show just a lil high. Not too much, you’ll lose the thread. But if you keep in the zone, it’s a wild wild ride.

Still cannot believe that show was on primetime broadcast television in the 90s, it’s the perfect marriage of art and commercial filmmaking. And the whole country was OBSESSED with it. Really wish we had more weird, beautiful stuff like it Twin Peaks =\

And the whole thing was David Lynch taking the piss out of other primetime shows.

I understand it was a big hit in Japan. Which seems weird, but alongside their apparent appreciation for King Of The Hill, it makes sense: these shows are Americans exaggerating Americana. Cooper is even enough of an outsider to appreciate it in-universe. With aggressive sincerity.

Lower left is Ace Ventura, no?

Ah wait, I’m really wrong - it’s Dale Cooper from Twin Peaks.

    Holmes was a mess.

He was unpopular at school; hung out with the lower classes; used cocaine; once shot the letters ‘V R’ into his living room wall; was a member of a club where no member was supposed to speak to another; only survived as long as he did because his brother was a major government official.

Sherlock was not a club member, that was Mycroft (I vaguely remember him being one of the founders, too).

The rest is true though. With the addition of Sherlock having major bouts of depression where he would not leave him rooms for days.

It’s true that Doyle never mentioned it, but it’s logical that Holmes would want a place he could duck into for a quick meal; or a nap; or to put on a new disguise. Watson does say that Holmes had bolt holes around London, so it would have been foolish for him not to have a membership.

I remember reading about his membership in a non canon work.

If you’re a fan look up ‘The 7% Solution.’ It’s available as a novel and a movie; Holmes meets the only doctor capable of curing his cocaine addiction, Sigmund Freud.

Columbo is all four corners at once. He always looks like he’s doing rough, but he never quite looks like he’s falling apart. He’s just happy where he is. And he does use vibes in addition to algorithmic logic. He usually knows who the murderer is after his first time meeting them. He just has to prove it using the proper rigour

I’ll never forget my first playthrough of Disco.

Spent an hour attempting to build a character I thought would make a good detective.

Wake up… oh god this is really bad hrm…

Well ok… lets get my tie.

    Heart Attack. Dead. Game Over.

Possibly the greatest single player rpg ever.

I think Sherlock Holmes is a drug addict in the books.

So yeah. You’re right: he just looks like someone not falling apart

I think Holmes belongs on the bottom right. He is a mess of a human being, and he makes intuitive leaps that are borderline magical.
