Wow, that’s pretty. I’ve been flirting with the idea of buying a fountain pen but I found the good ones expensive considering I rarely even write on paper anymore.

Jinhao are great for new & experienced users alike. I’d highly recommend the 82, 100, & X159 models. Platinum Preppy’s are also excellent budget pens that write far better than a lot of pens in the sub £100 range. The Plasir and Prefounte are basically the same pen but with fancier aesthetics if the Preppy doesn’t do it for you. Other pens worth looking at are the Pilot Kakuno & Metropolitan, Kaweco Sport & Perkeo, Faber-Castell Grip, and the Lamy Safari.

I, too, recommend Jinhao pens. I have a Jinhao 75 and it is an absolute pleasure to write with, I like it even more than my US$50-70 fountain pens.

The regular Safari & Joy are like sub ~20 bucks. Everyone in school used them.

Oh, the Vista! Rather than be lured by the many colors of the safari, you have sought out the clarity of the clear. Great choice! Welcome to fountain pens!

Nice, I’m using my lammy today. I’d like to get one with a slightly flat tip so I can write with some slighly more interesting calligraphy. I’ll have to research what to get

Neat! I have a couple of Vistas, a Safari, and an Al-Star with nibs from EF to B. Solid pens and iconic design.

Also try writing without posting the cap. The balance of the pen is different. See what you like more.

What’s the dimensions of the notebook? The picture makes it look long and narrow. At a guess I would say 4x11 or a 8 1/2 x 11 sheet folded in half.

It’s 9x5 so yeah it’s a little more narrow then usual. Makes it easier to find room to keep it in my bag.

Not the book, the nib on the pen. I imagine it’s ground to accommodate the “hook” that many lefties do to avoid smearing fountain pen ink.
