China, with an 18% share of the global population, uses 26% of the world’s primary energy and emits 33% of the world’s energy-related CO2. The energy transition unfolding in the country isn’t merely a national affair as its ramifications echo globally, explains Mahnaz Hadizadeh, a researcher for consultancy DNV.
I’m not a .ml shill, but you gotta admit that china has a good influence on the global market for green energy. They’re flooding the market with cheap solar panels. They’re building massive wind farms and solar farms at a dizzying speed. They are leading by example. It sure seems nice to be able to just decide to do stuff without months or years of bureaucratic bullshit beforehand or pesky labor laws. There’s a lot of things wrong with china, but there’s also good things. It’s almost as if things are not simply black and white.
They are also flooding markets with cheap(er) EVs. Unfortunately governments are doing what they can to make those more expensive through tariffs and import controls.
