I had a comment earlier this week comparing him to Larry David. David also takes his cues from social situations that he finds disagreeable. True reacts with anger line an explosion of id. David reacts with…a variety of strategies that always turn out cringe. True, like David, is meant to express an inner wish of the viewer to stand up to life’s micro aggressions.

I have a kind of in universe theory. As opposed to the reality that the artist wanted him that way as his way to make social commentary.

In universe, Everett is not physical. He’s a personification of the id of the locality he’s in. All of his outbursts are the collective consciousness of his town in a kind of floating, imaginary daydream.

That’s why he’s inconsistent within the universe; as higher levels of anger and frustration occur, the personification takes on those viewpoints more than the regular collective which is fairly socially positive, for people, but against the social wrongs. When the drifts and vagaries of more focused anger swell into the aether of his world, he does things like this that are distinctly antisocial.

Which, I know, most people won’t accept such a hippy-dippy head canon, but what do I care? I can just focus my rage and have Everett punch them ;)
