I would like to control few functions while driving. navigation (osmand), play music (multiple apps) are main ones. As of now I think either voice assistant or car UI are 2 options. So are there any apps supporting these?

It would be amazing if there was a project out there that was compatible with Android Auto but was privacy-respecting.

if I understand correctly there is no way to make FOSS AA (protocol itself is not open unless reverse engineered). There needs to be separate implementation like AA / CarPlay and headunit needs to support it. Current best case scenario is miracast supporting headunits (but this is one directional)

My car has Bluetooth only. I wanted Android Auto because it was awesome on my phone, so I got an Android Auto tablet off Ali Express.

It’s not arrived yet, I’m expecting it after the weekend, but I can’t wait to have that UI back, that ease of use while driving.

It can connect to my Car by Aux or FM radio so can be wireless. I’ll be changing to connecting to it instead of my car over Bluetooth. Then I’ll be able to use the UI or Voice to control my phone while it’s still in my pocket.

I hope it turns out as well as it is in my mind. For £30 it’s worth a go

Yeah I’ve tried that search multiple times myself and end up back on Google for driving, it’s just superior

It should work as you think it will. Minus data from the car. But you could maybe do this with an added wireless obd-adapter. If needed. AA is cool, especially since the cool-walk-update where you can have many apps on the same screen at once. Love my sygic plus MediaMonkey and telegram.
