The current functionality of the #Lemmy platform requires users to utilize their #Mastodon accounts to follow other Lemmy users, which differs from the approach taken by platforms like #mbin. This limitation can be seen as an inconvenience for those who prefer a more integrated user experience within Lemmy itself.

Mastodon (microblogging, follow users) and Lemmy (forum, follow topics) cater to different kinds of users. I don’t subscribe to personalities, I subscribe to discussion topics, that’s why I’m on lemmy and not mastodon.

    What?
Well, I can only speak for myself, I’m not here to follow users but communities.
And if someone wants to follow me I’d see it as kind of annoying for them seeing all the different topics I post and comment instead of something focused.

IMO the ability to see Mastodon interactions in Lemmy and vice-versa is quite annoying since they use the same protocol for different experiences.

That’s not a bug, it’s a feature. If you want to follow users, use Mastodon or something.

Good - thought I was the only one who saw little value in following a person on Lemmy.

I had originally hoped to use my Mastodon account to follow Lemmy communities but the fact that every single comment on a post pops up in my feed made it… just really unusable. Really happy with using #mbin for Lemmy though and keeping my Mastodon and Mbin separate.
