We’ve been revisiting Futurama in the lead up to its Hulu return and I have to say the show is still one of the best of all time. The jokes still hit and the characters may even be MORE lovable than I remember. What are some of your favorite moments? (from the old show of course)
Leela cracked corn and I don’t care
Fry cracked corn, I still don’t care
Bender cracked corn and he is great
Take that you stupid corn“Finally, solitude. I can read books for all eternity!”
glasses break
“It’s not fair - it’s not fair! Wait, my eyes aren’t that bad; I can still read the large-print books!”
eyes fall out
“IT’S NOT F- Well, lucky I know how to read Braille.”
hands fall off, tongue falls out, head falls off
The Scary Door
And now, The Scary Mirror!
Saw it coming
My favorite episode is Kif Gets Knocked Up a Notch for sure. So many great lines! The phrase “partially barfed-up heart” made me laugh so hard I had tears in my eyes. Not to mention this insane even-with-context line;
“Spare me your space-age technobabble, Atilla the
Hun!”My wife and I still refer to any character in a show who’s name we can’t remember or who shows up out of nowhere as “Scruffy the Janitor”. It’s such a perfect 4th wall breaking gag.
Scruffy died doing what he loved.
Turns page of nudie mag.
My favorite joke of the whole series comes from Bender in the first episode: “Okay, but I don’t want anybody to think we’re robosexuals. If anybody asks, tell them you’re my debugger.”
I’ve just been watching through Futurama again, and so many of the lines never fail to crack me up.
I just watched the episode in season 3 where Zap, Kiff, Leela and Amy go on a double date, and the space station restaurant starts crashing so Zap takes the wheel to “save the day”. As he takes the wheel he says so confidently"She’s built like a steakhouse but handles like a Bistro" and that line absolutely slays me. I was almost in tears hearing it again, I love Zap as a character so much.
I firmly believe the use of Bistro is a reference to HGTTG. One of the later books describes the Bistro Drive (based on the complex mathematics used to calculate the bill) which is faster than even the Infinite Improbability Drive.
I was actually just telling someone about that on Thursday, I didn’t even think to make that connection! The robots at the table splitting the bill as the core of the drive is so funny. Douglas Adams is a beauty.
I just watched that episode too and those were some of the best lines I had forgotten about. SO GOOD!
The season opener was hilarious. Good sign of things to come but this show is always so good at trying to make its return right before a writers strike.
I thought it leaned I to the meta a bit much, but that was also the case for the first episode when they came back the other times so I am still optimistic since the non-meta stuff was excellent.
Drop down, increase speed, reverse direction!
That whole what-if felt like a whole episode of jokes in 1/3rd of the time. Also the finglonger from the first anthology of interest .
A lot of people will have the same answers here, but some of the moments that aren’t quite as common would be great.
One of mine is the episode where Zoidberg is molting and at the end of the episode he returns to his old shell but with tape on it. Hilarious.
“It looked just like my old shell, but this one had a racoon in it!”
And one time, a pepperoni! Oh what a day that was!
