Unless you’re talking Warclaw in WvW, in which case yeah that sucks but then again so does all the rest of WvW. And it’d have nothing to do with the 3rd expansion.

Also just because you can get a mount easily now doesn’t mean you could when they played.
I couldn’t get a mount easily last time I played without just spending money. That was a couple years ago but the game has been out for a long time.
