Lewis noted that the code of conduct does not explicitly state anything about councillors drinking during meetings but the code of conduct does make mention of councillors’ decorum.

John Mascarin, a Toronto lawyer who specializes in municipal politics, said that it would likely be irrelevant that it was not explicitly stated. “You would expect a council member who’s attending a formal meeting at which decisions will be made to treat it with the proper modicum of respect. That would include being properly attired, not using any profane language, and likely, most people would say, not consuming alcoholic beverages.”

That image should be on a t-shirt as far as I am concerned. We used to have beer cart Fridays at my office. a beer during a meeting is definitely one of the stupider things to get butthurt about.

We did at my work too. It wouldn’t have been a problem had I not been working at a preschool.

Okay okay you’re at a preachool dude, come on use common sense. However i used to hand out free alcohol after those alcoholics anonymous events. They wanted to stay anonymous so i would empty out water bottles and fill em up with the cheapest vodka i could find. Most people really loved it and started weeping. A few though, oh they got mad and wanted to fight. I could never understand why.
