The main seat of the Utrecht public library is 132 years old and used to be a postal office.
I really love the architecture, the main hall always impresses me whenever I visit.
This is the vantage point from where I took the photo, helpfully highlighted by the halo :)
Edit: I’m an idiot who can’t read critically. The institute of the Utrecht library is 132 years old. The old post office building is exactly 100 years old.
Sorry for giving the wrong information.
Wow! What an amazing building, it looks like a temple or church
I thought it was modern architecture at first glance, but the fact that it used to be a postal office, and it’s over a century old…
They certainly don’t make 'em like they used to
I did a bit of extra reading and I made a mistake. The Utrecht library is 132 years old, but this building is exactly 100 years old.
I really need to read more thoroughly.
This pic is awesome.
Visited my friend this year who lived in Utrecht and he said this library is his favorite place to go to the bathroom for free
Gorgeous! I was there for the first time recently, beautiful building
No pictures of the bookshelves? Love a good library
If you zoom all the way in, you can see a few between those pillars at the end of the hall :)
!
Really is gorgeous. That glass though. Can’t imagine how they keep each side clean.
