Tinkerer here.
Fairly well versed with HA.
About to take my first jump into…cameras.
(My main HA install runs on a RiPi4/ssd)
I.e getting external PoE cameras…presumably(?) I’ll need frigate and probably(?) a dedicated mini computer to run it, extra HDD too.
Is a Coral TPU essentially a must-have? Or optional? Same question for Frigate? Same question for the miniPC? Or can I just run off the Pi4?
Looking to have things like vehicle detection. Will start with one camera, might add up to 4 total later.
Basically, looking for those experienced/knowledgeable folks here to give me a few hardware/software recipes for “Cameras for HA” :) Thanks.
Second question: Realistically, how long is one likely to spend messing about setting all this up? (not including hardware install time). Just looking to understand how arduous/time consuming it’s likely to be from the time I sit down at my desk (after everything is plugged in) to start installing and configuring things… until the point I get notifications on my phone when a vehicle appears in the driveway etc…
(Assume no background with cameras, but competent network/linux admin/jinja template etc)
