“Fewer” being distinct from “less” is clearly on its way out. The difference is minor enough to make it fairly useless, anyway.
Also the sign is only eight characters wide. “ONE FEWER” wouldn’t fit in the line.
I’m a grammar stickler, but I’ll allow it.
The sign allows for three lines, though, they they could have fit it if they really wanted to.
When I hack the sign, I’ll use “FEWER”.
