    2023.08.14 SOTD (#UNCHALLENGE shave #14):

    • Prep: Neutrogena Hydro Boost Cleanser

    • Brush: AKA Brushworks Amethyst Watchman with 26mm AP Shave Co G5C

    • Post Shave: Stirling Mentholated Unscented Witch Hazel and Aloe, Seaforth! Sea Ice Lime Aftershave Splash, Neutrogena Hydro Boost Gel-Cream Extra-Dry

AA Day 14! Chasing the dragon of my perfect Saturday shave has resulted in a smooth, yet irritated neck :/ I’ll be taking it easy the next couple of days as a result. A poor craftsman blames his tools, and this issue was all me.

Kismet Blade - Losing My Edge
    #Monthofweckoning

Not much to say. I tried another slurry lather along with my normal 2-pass pattern, but no dawdling. 10 minutes from start to EdP. Very comfortable.

I added another microscope shot to the album. This shows that the edge is pretty much the same. I will say that it is getting more difficult by the day to get a good focus point near the apex. That generally happens when the edge is not uniform. I continue to think that I feel slightly less sharpness when shaving.

As you know, I did this to celebrate a correlation of 70th anniversaries. However, using SV daily only improves my appreciation for its quality. Even though I feel like I’m approaching Avogadro’s number of soaps, and should use them all, I’m seriously considering just staying with 70th until it is done.

Even though I feel like I’m approaching Avogadro’s number of soaps

That’s my “problem” too, so many nice soaps, and all of them take forever to use up :D

I’m seriously considering just staying with 70th until it is done.

That’s 75% of u/EldrormR’s Big Brain Bowl Bonanza. You’ll need that [REDACTED] brush to speed things up ;)

(useless side musing: Avogadro’s number of soaps would weigh in at about 60 Yg, while Earth’s total biomass comes to 3 Eg. It’s time to get that space exploration going, I want space tallow)

I may have exaggerated a little bit.

I love that thing. Can’t wait to learn the details.

You know, much of my engineering career was spent working on big budget, one-of-a-kind spacecraft programs. Amazingly, space tallow never came up :) If we’re talking 60 Yg, orbital mechanics will be interesting.

I did not know that about your career! You’re only the third NASA (or NASA-adjacent?) person I’ve met.

                  orbital mechanics will be interesting.

Yup, and we better figure out a space elevator before landing that tallow

The Fourteenth Day Of Weckoning is upon us - It’s Flipping Time

    • Brush: Rubberset 400-3 with a 26 mm unbleached Zenith boar knot at 56 mm loft
    • Razor: Weck Sextoblade Med Prep
    • Blade: Kismet Rostfrei, Polymer beschichtet (20)
    • Lather: Barrister and Mann – Oceana
    • Post Shave: Ralon – Original
    • Fragrance: Stirling Soap Co. – Island Man

I flipped the blade around today to get the presumably less used heel to take over as the new toe, and I felt 🥁🥁🥁🥁 no difference. These Kismet blades really hold up well. Wow.

I now have a daily shave inspector. Djunior has started the habit of examining my chin and then to djudge it in one of two categories: 1) “Bisschen katzt” (toddler German for “scratches a little”) or 2) “Nein katzt” (toddler German for "does not scratch). It’s a bit intimidating.

    MRTNG’s Ultra Nightmare Mode
    Midnight Stag Challenge

    Gear Pic :: Video

    ䷀ General Notes

So I"ve been reducing load time, as the soap retains moisture… and today is to shave with just two swirls of the brush!

    ䷀ Razor and Blade Notes

    (Timeless - Stainless Steel .68 - Open Comb ::: Gillette - Nacet - M ‹512 uses›)

Same: First pass has some tugginess to it. But no irritation that lasts longer than a little tuggy stroke. Latter passes feel fine and give a reasonably close shave. 3 pretty quick passes.

Razor and Blade Performance/Comfort Rating: 2 out of 5 (Okay)

    ䷀ Soap Notes

(Chiseled Face - Midnight Stag - White Label)

I just love all the aspects of this scent!

Scent Strength: 6/10, nicely present during shaving.

Lather… 2 swirls of loading, if you can believe that.

Today was a test to see if that would be enough loading. And it was plenty for 3 passes! I even had that luxurious wad of lather still in the brush that was available for a great finish.

    Hydration: Perfect (for me)

    • 1 sec load with a Very Wet brush
    • = 4 passes of lather

    Bowl: No Bowl

    ䷀ Brush Notes

    (Zenith - r/wetshaving MOAR BOAR B35/508A XL ‹37 uses›)

Same: Comfortable soft tips that do flex some, but that are supported by a base with strong backbone. As with all young boars, I look forward to the tips splitting with more uses and getting softer with use. I am generally using a hair dryer to gently treat the tips and age them just a bit faster than normal.

    During the Shave Feel:
      Cheeks: Felt blade but comfortable
      Neck: Felt blade but comfortable
    After the Shave Closeness:
      Cheeks: Close Shave
Neck: Several hairs are showing some tip length (still a pretty good shave)
