Share your Austere August shave of the day for Wednesday!
The Sixteenth Day Of Weckoning is upon us
- Brush: Rubberset 400-3 with a 26 mm unbleached Zenith boar knot at 56 mm loft
- Razor: Weck Sextoblade Med Prep
- Blade: Kismet Rostfrei, Polymer beschichtet (22)
- Lather: Barrister and Mann – Oceana
- Post Shave: Ralon – Original
- Fragrance: Stirling Soap Co. – Island Man
Ok, so I had a good slurry shave today, and it was insanely quick: six and a half minutes for a two-pass open blade shave from picking up the soaked brush to spraying the frag, and I didn’t not hurry.

That is a very impressive time. It’s good to have a very quick multipass shave as part of your skillset.
I’m clocking in around 10 minutes. AA will be a great time for me to work on shaving pass efficiency.

I love these sentences that this hobby makes us write 😀
Hah! Yeah, especially considering last month I was making SOTD photos that included cocktails :)
That’s very cool man!!

Kismet Blade - Losing My Edge
#Monthofweckoning
I did some timing today. This is primarily to give @sgrdddy@sub.wetshaving.social some data about my lathering. Today’s lathers were just like yesterday. Perfect (for me). Very rich, fragrant, wet, and slick. The blade felt light and feathery while cutting whiskers. Anyway, here’s the timing along with some comments:
- Brush loading - 12 sec - damp brush, slightly splayed
- Preshave - 40 sec - protolather spread on face and worked into beard with lots of water to dilute it into a very slick emulsion
- First lather - 90 sec - paint lather, dip tips, splay brush and agitate to build volume. Add water and build in this manner until lather is full and fully hydrated
- First pass - 230 sec - 3:50
- Second lather - 85 sec - same method as first
- Second pass - 250 sec - 4:10
Total - 707 sec or 11:47
These timings represent a full-enjoyment shave for me. I’m not rushing. Just being mindful of the experience. The reason for not overloading the brush relates to wanting a full lather but not wanting to spend more time than needed to get one. Also, I want to limit the time I need to cleanup after shaving. With today’s shave, like most of mine, there was no excess lather strewn about the sink or countertop. Cleanup is just rinse the soap, dry the razor, swipe the counter with a towel.
No need for a microscope photo today. Status quo on the edge.

Midnight Stag Challenge䷀ General Notes
Let’s see if the 1 swirl load was a fluke. Well, it wasn’t.
䷀ Razor and Blade Notes
(Timeless - Stainless Steel .68 - Open Comb ::: Gillette - Nacet - M ‹514 uses›)
Same: First pass has some tugginess to it. But no irritation that lasts longer than a little tuggy stroke. Latter passes feel fine and give a reasonably close shave. 3 pretty quick passes.
Razor and Blade Performance/Comfort Rating: 2 out of 5 (Okay)
䷀ Soap Notes
(Chiseled Face - Midnight Stag - White Label)
I just love all the aspects of this scent!
Scent Strength: 6/10, nicely present during shaving.
Lather… Ha ha! Today we continue with a slurry lather, and we again confirm that with this soap, having used it over and over, it’s retaining enough moisture that one swirl with the boar brush is enough to give me a, in this case, four pass shave. And good lather too. Slick and ultra wet.
This time I just did three passes, and didn’t even have to extract the lather from the brush to get the last pass done.
Hydration: Perfect (for me)
- 1 sec load with a Very Wet brush
- = 4 passes of lather
Bowl: No Bowl
䷀ Brush Notes
(Zenith - r/wetshaving MOAR BOAR B35/508A XL ‹39 uses›)
Same: Comfortable soft tips that do flex some, but that are supported by a base with strong backbone. As with all young boars, I look forward to the tips splitting with more uses and getting softer with use.
During the Shave Feel:
Cheeks: Felt blade but comfortable
Neck: Felt blade but comfortable
After the Shave Closeness:
Cheeks: Close Shave
Neck: Several hairs are showing some tip length (still a pretty good shave)
