Found my stitch markers and finished the hat! It fits so well, the yarn is so dang cheerful, it can be worn a variety of ways, and most importantly it doesn’t mess with hearing aids when I put it on and take it off!

@ChaosCoati I didn’t, actually, but when I was finished and sent a pic to a knitting friend she responded “The Musselburgh Hat!” and sure enough, my cast on and off are different but yeah, it’s the Musselburgh Hat!
Musselburgh, that’s the pattern I was trying to think of. Awesome that you made up your own, I always have to stick to a pattern
How do you wear it? Putting one side into the other?

@sit Yes, and it can be worn as a slouchy hat (below) or as a watch cap, and of course is fully reversible.
