Kismet Blade - Losing My Edge
#Monthofweckoning
I’m posting this in the early afternoon, but I had a very packed schedule this morning. Because of this, I thought a @sgrdddy@sub.wetshaving.social slurry shave was in order. Normally, my 2-pass shaving pattern includes chasing BBS by varying the direction of razor travel in areas that are difficult; primarily the neck, chin and beneath the corners of my mouth. For a change, I wondered how much my shaving time would improve if I used a slurry lather and just did not chase BBS in those areas.
I put the phone in stopwatch mode, opened the soap, got the brush wet under the tap, then pressed the Start button. I pressed the Stop button at 6:29 after putting the top back on the EdP.
No nicks or irritation and, as expected, the shave is not BBS in the areas that I mentioned. I am a bit surprised at how good it is overall. I thought I’d be rating it as Average (which equates to DFS), but it is really better than that, hence the Good rating.
I noted that @djundjila@sub.wetshaving.social did a 2-pass slurry lather today, timed it, and made a video (show-off!). It took him 5 minutes and within that time he’s showing soap, splash and aftershave to the camera. Like @djundjila@sub.wetshaving.social, I did not rush and you might wonder why we emphasize this. Pick up a Weck with a blade in it and contemplate your results if you rush moving it around your mouth, ears, Adam’s apple, and so on. Hopefully, you get the point.
No microscope pic today. I did inspect the edge. It just soldiers on …
I did not rush and you might wonder why we emphasize this.
Yeah, I also felt the need to emphasise it in my post 😅. If speed Wecking ever becomes a thing, I want to be very far away from it.
The Seventeenth Day Of Weckoning is upon us - A 5 minute Wecking
- Brush: Rubberset 400-3 with a 26 mm unbleached Zenith boar knot at 56 mm loft
- Razor: Weck Sextoblade Med Prep

- Lather: Barrister and Mann – Oceana
- Post Shave: Ralon – Original
- Fragrance: Stirling Soap Co. – Island Man
After a request by u/FMKJuli (the “M” stands for "Doubting Thomas 😉), I’ve filmed my shave today.
@sgrdddy@sub.wetshaving.social’s slurry lather (but about a dozen swirl, not a mind-boggling single swirl), two passes with the Weck, splash and frag in 5 minutes. Good shave, not quite BBS, but almost, no irritation, no blood, and most importantly: no hurrying.

Can’t see your face.
How do you do that? Are there commercial/free
beauty filtersanonymizers available? Asking for a friend.I used this after trying to use openshot and blender. Those give more control, but have more of a learning curve
Thanks for the pointer!

AA Day 17! Okay. I think I did it again. Not quite as perfect as my shave on Saturday, but damn close (95%). Commenting my shave in detail so I don’t forget:
- 3 passes plus some cleanup near my jawbone joint
- shave pattern
- left side: top-down pattern, 1 razor width
- right side: top down pattern, 2 razor width
- bottom: left to right pattern, 1 razor width
- rest of neck: diagonal pattern, ~45°, left to right.
- first pass WTG at setting 7
- second pass XTH at setting 6
- third pass ATG at setting 4
- cleanup pass as necessary at setting 1
- what I believe to be the real key for me: making sure my neck skin is taught by leaning my neck forward and pulling down on my chest. I believe the second part to be the main missing key for me.
This left me with an irritation free shave and a beautifully smooth neck. A great feeling.

Since everyone is doing a slurry-lather, I tried as well. 5 swirls, and then to the face. I got a slight tingle, but no burn as with a full face lather. We’ll see how the dryness develops.
Have a good evening!
Welcome to the slurry lather club. Are you getting frag burn?
It’s better than normal face-lathering, but still worse than bowl-lathering. I think it might become worse with further exposure.
I can’t wait until AA is over and you can use a soap that doesn’t burn.
I will leave behind most of the gear (soap and razor) at my parents’ place tomorrow, and only continue with the brush and the blade. No more frag burn from tomorrow on 😎
Excellent!
