Elon Musk’s team is reportedly gaining control over key U.S. government operations.
His Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) officials have clashed with Treasury staff over access to federal payment systems, which handle $6 trillion annually.
Reports indicate Musk aides have locked civil servants out of government databases and are reviewing tech operations across agencies.
Originally intended as an external advisory body, DOGE was instead integrated into the government by Trump’s executive order, giving Musk a direct role in federal operations.
Some of us know and are incredibly frustrated and disheartened by it, but we’re still the minority. The state has a monopoly on violence at any meaningful scale. What are we supposed to do while we wait for the rest of the country to wake up? All we can do is talk about it and try to get them to see what’s happening.
We’re in the minority because most folks aren’t bothering to pay attention.
Or they just blithely assume that it will all go back to normal in four years and choose to ignore it.
Even if Trump doesn’t survive until then, and even if the best possible Democrat is able to become the next president, it will take decades to clean up Trump’s mess, and at least the same amount of time for the rest of the world to start trusting the USA and Americans again.
We hoped you’d have learned how much of a mistake Trump was the first time, and then you just go and make the same mistake again a few years later.
This is a mess of your own making, and you have to fix your own shit.
Until then, the rest of us will be out here using your example as a warning, and getting on with our lives.
