Arab Americans in Michigan are reacting more cautiously to President Donald Trump’s remarks on the Israel-Hamas war than they did to Democratic candidates during the 2024 presidential campaign.
I mean you can find examples to prove any point you want, but you have to remember that there is a high chance that this all blows over once Trump realizes that he’s asking for the impossible. People are choosing to stay hopeful and not immediately assume that their religious and ethnic compatriots will be ethnically cleansed.
Perhaps acting as if Arab Americans are a cohesive voting bloc rather than a see of individuals making individual decisions is a mistake. Quoting Rashida Tlaib as if she’s part of the problem is ridiculous.
“People are taking a deep breath. It’s too early to render a judgment."
"maybe it was a mistake to vote for President Trump,”
"some of Trump’s comments relating to the Middle East have been extremely, extremely concerning to the community.”
That’s pretty muted if you ask me.
