The place seems quieter than in December, are other people feeling the same?

I’ve seen a few independent newspaper saying that Bluesky doesn’t bring them that much interaction compared to Twitter, and unfortunately they only have so much time dedicated to social media, so their priority is on Twitter now.

        interest/niche dependent

Seems a little like this is the future for alternative social media platforms. At least along socio-political lines. Haven’t used Bluesky in around a month so I assume nothing has changed in this regard but people there don’t fuck around when it comes to blocking conservatives and right wingers. So now interests and niches are split across two different platforms instead of just being on one.

Which is fine as far as I’m concerned because I’d like to be able to discuss comics for example, without hearing about wokeness or DEI or something. But it probably also means that certain niches and interests are going to require a lot more users on the platform than before in order to feel like they have the same amount of activity as they did when it was all on one platform.

I can imagine that news orgs are particularly caught between a rock and a hard place as far as this goes. Disappointing to hear that they’ve moved back to Twitter though. When I was there, there were a lot of articles doing the rounds describing the exact opposite and saying that news orgs were actually seeing more activity on Bluesky than Twitter. So I wonder what happened there. Maybe these news orgs value outrage and controversy more than whatever they were getting on Bluesky.

I joined near the start of the exodus from Twitter / X, and most posts there were self congratulatory, telling you how much better Bluesky was. It was a bit tedious at times, but there was generally a friendly atmosphere there.

Now, it’s full of American political posts, and everyone seems either angry, or fed up and losing hope.

I haven’t noticed a drop in traffic there, but if someone’s blocked keywords relating to politics, they’re going to be seeing a lot fewer posts.

It’s perfect for watching AEW, it’s like one of the only wrestling communities online that isn’t toxic.

I don’t want Twitter or Bluesky. How is it possible to have the time to be active on so many different platforms?

    I have time for Lemmy.

Different uses. The researchers in my field were mostly on Twitter, then some of them to Mastodon, but most left it. There was another exodus to Bluesky, which at the time being, is at least not owned by a person making Nazi salutes.

If you don’t like Bluesky, I would suggest to block this community.

I’m pretty interested in urbanism and I think the mass exit from X to Bluesky has held pretty strong. Almost all the big people in the field are on Bluesky and get quite a bit of engagement. I also started https://urbanismnow.com/ recently and have pretty good engagement on Bluesky and Mstdn so I’m happy with it.

I kept an eye on comics Xitter and, once some people (like Greg Pak) led the charge almost everyone came over which was pretty impressive.

As it has all largely become about politics I’ve been less engaged with the US side of things but they’ve just had an election and I believe it didn’t go well, so I’ll let them off.

I use Bluesky for furry stuff and it seems pretty active on that front. If anything I’ve actually seen a lot more interaction.
