So did Canada have wars with the original population like USA did?
Isn’t it more like they are living together now? Where USA created small reservations for Indians after killing and beating them into submission.
I’m from Denmark, and nobody was forced to leave this land for us to live here.
Canada had the Residential School system, which was a genocide, don’t take my word for it, it’s one of the conclusions the Truth and Reconciliation report described as a cultural genocide, archive link. The last federal school closed in 1997, there’s been mass graves found at some of these in the news over the last decade. Many of these schools were religious and as recently as 2017 the PM was seeking a formal apology from the pope (of the Christian denoms, Catholicism is the majority).
Canada’s history is almost more sinister, we’d do well to never forget that if we want to address the systemic problems that remain to this day.
I mean, I had been reading about the native people’s of Canada not too long ago and how they have been historically fucked by the Canadian government, and continue to be fucked over in modern times. Especially all those articles about schools for the native people’s where they were finding mass graves of students.
They’re certainly native to the Americas, but they’re descended from a drastically different culture than the ones in the eventual US and Canada and targeted a lot more. I feel it’s accurate to differentiate Mexicans from (for example) Sioux or Navajo or Pequot, particularly when talking about modern day race relations in the United States.
That said, if you think Mexicans have been oppressed more by the US than the natives living further north, you should probably study your history better. At least folks of Aztec descent still exist in significant numbers, instead of having been mostly killed off!
Also don’t forget about the millions of people native to former northern Mexico (Texas, California, and the land between) who became American citizens by virtue of those territories being ceded to the US, then later got deported anyway.
What a stupid thing to say. It doesn’t need to be a contest. Some groups are targeted more, that’s just statement of fact. I doubt the ones that are targeted less feel like they’ve won anything.

I’m not talking about history. I’m talking about the modern day. If you believe the trail of tears was within the last hundred years, you should probably study your history better.
Fine, if that’s how you want this conversation to go:
If you believe the US is currently oppressing Mexicans more than it’s oppressing Native Americans, right now in the modern day, you’re just fucking ignorant of everything, let alone history.
There’s plenty of archeological evidence that the populations of Scandinavia are more or less those that followed the ice and were the first to populate the region after the ice age. That is: They are the native or “original” inhabitants of the land.
Isn’t it more like they are living together now? Where USA created small reservations for Indians after killing and beating them into submission.
Canada’s history (including very recent history) with natives has been bad, which includes the forced assimilation programs that didn’t end until the mid 1990’s…
Anglo Canada’s and US history is the same from the late 16th century until US’ Independence in the late 18th century… Then it was just the same thing but by two different countries.
Maybe think of a comeback that doesn’t also apply to Canada

Sorry for the down votes. Yeah canada had a horrible history with the first nations peoples.

OK, so Canada is only as real as USA then, I don’t see how that helps Musk’s argument.

Yeah. Last hundred years or so US racists have been focused on black people and Mexicans, whereas in Canada first nations take the brunt of it.
Mexicans are Native Americans. The “black people” part of what you wrote is the only real difference.

Being oppressed isn’t a contest.

Modern Mexicans are mostly Mestizo, mixed Spanish and indigenous peoples (Aztec, Maya, etc.).
So are most US Native Americans and Canadian First Nations folks.

don’t forget forced sterilization of Indigenous women, the last documented case (that I can find) of which happened in

2018

Don’t bark up this tree. You can have the right idea and let this go.
Yeah because the Danes never conquered and enslaved anybody lol.

lol I was thinking of England. Admittedly it was a while back, but they all count.
The Neanderthals were forced to leave.
Nope they were never here.
Edit:
To the morons downvoting, Neanderthals couldn’t live this high north:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Neanderthal#Population
Neanderthals never reached any part of Scandinavia.
No, they’re running the US.
