Just got a new case for my v3 and now all it is doing is going through a power cycle loop showing the splash screen and nothing more. Pulled the battery and tried only USB power but same result.

Has anyone seen this issue? Running the current beta firmware and it was working fine for a few weeks so i doubt it’s a SW issue.

Does ir do that if you take it out of the case?

Could be the reset button getting partially pressed. Had similar issues with some of my 3D printed cases when I was still tuning the print settings.

Thinking maybe that is it. So I removed the buttons (its a 3d printed case with the two buttons connected together. Still see the issue.

So then I tried plugging in the battery while the board was out of the case. Booted just fine. While staying plugged in and with the buttons removed I pushed the board back into the case and all good…until I hit the reset button and now it is back in a power cycle loop. This is so weird.

Not sure what case design you’re using, but what worked for me was taking a knife and enlarging the button holes slightly (that was easier than sanding down the buttons).

On later prints, I had success scaling the case to 101% and scaling the buttons down to 98% in my slicer.

I removed the buttons completely and was still having issues so it isn’t the reset button being pressed that is the problem.

I think it might be that the case is carbon fiber infused which can be conductive and maybe its actually grounding something.

My v3 did that with low batt. And also when I set it up with mqtt, for seemingly no reason. I only got it out by holding power during boot and releasing at the exact right moment (which I had to kinda feel out by having it almost boot a few times but then reboot because I held it too long or not enough).

I wish I could help, really I’m just bitching about the v3. B/t those issues I had, the abysmal battery and lack of GPS, I’ll never recommend it to anyone, I say go t1000e or t114v2 instead (or rak, t-beam, whatever). Really I’m not big on ESP32 for meshtastic at all I think, unless maybe you want to flash meshtastic on the Flipper 0 wifi devboard (which…actually sounds kinda cool…), or for MQTT (which is the eventual fate of my v3, perpetually plugged in with the battery for back up and MQTT because otherwise it’s going in a box, and future nodes will all be nrf52 or l1110 based.) If you do figure it out come back and post the reason/fix, it may help someone in the future!

I’m 99% sure its due to the 3d print being carbon fiber infused. Just conductive enough that possibly a later on the PCB is touching and shorting. Works find out of the case, its currently been up for 30 mins just bare board and a battery. But as soon as its in the case with no buttons it starts acting up.

Going to stop at the store in the morning to find a spray on sealant to see if I put a thin layer on the inside of the case does the issue go away. Then we will know.

under USB power with no battery it still occurs. Looking like an odd case issue.
