Not a bad idea. I have very little faith in the entire stock market as a whole over the next four years, though, so that money is going to be staying in safer places for the time being.

It was all “free money” anyway–I had RSUs as part of a previous job, and dividends (or maybe a stock sale to pay taxes?) left me with a couple hundred dollars in my Etrade account. I put it into a single share of TSLA as a lark because, at the time, all Musk was doing was bankrolling Tesla and SpaceX. Seemed pretty cool.

The stock split twice while I owned it, so I guess technically I sold 15 shares, not 1. But I actually forgot I owned it altogether until last year. Considering it was free money (to me), I wouldn’t have had any problem selling it at a loss, but I think I ended up making a few hundred off the whole misadventure.

Now that I’ve got it in hand, though, it feels less like “playing around” money and more real, so I don’t want to put it into the stock market. Even if we don’t see a Depression-like crash, I’m seriously wary about putting money on any company for fear that it’ll turn out to be morally awful in some way.
